Jesus - His final test
Courage is knowing what to fear and facing it anyway.
John Wayne put it this way. “Courage is being scared to death and saddling up anyway.”
How would you react if you knew you were heading in to the biggest moment of your life and knowing you were going to be betrayed. I don’t know about you but I would probably figure out a way to thwart their efforts.
THat’s not what Jesus did.
What about if you knew you were going to be wrongfully accused for somehting you didn’t do? We’d probably already be calling a lawyer.
That’s not what Jesus did.
23 When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly.
What if you knew that death awaited you on a cross? Not just death, but a brutal execution? We would probably run as far away from that future as we could.
That’s not what Jesus did.
39 And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.”
14 For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; 15 and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised.
God calls us to Himself and then calls us to live, no longer for our selves but for Him who died for us and was raised! That’s a life to live courageously! To go against the flow, to be set apart, different! Set apart for the one who we were created to seek!
Let’s pray.
