1 Cor 6:12 “All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.”
1 Cor 6:20 “For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.”
In order to restore a proper connection between the church in Corinth and God, Paul highlights the responsibility of believers as caretakers of their own bodies. He explains that the body is not autonomous or self-sustaining, but rather it belongs to the Lord and is an integral part of Christ.
In verse 19, Paul affirms that the body of a believer is like a sacred temple, housing the Holy Spirit. Since the Holy Spirit dwells within the believer's body, it is not appropriate for the believer to claim ownership over it. In verse 20, Paul presents another reason why believers should not consider their bodies as their own: "You were bought at a price." God acquired the believer's body and spirit through the valuable sacrifice of Jesus Christ's shed blood. It is important for us to diligently remember that our bodies belong to the Lord, having been purchased by His Son and inhabited by His Spirit.
It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and such sexual immorality as is not even named among the Gentiles—that a man has his father’s wife!
Everything was so jacked up in Corinth and everybody thought that they could do anything they wanted; or whatever they felt in their mind was right to do. They got totally out of God’s will into very perverted and immoral practices and activities.
Jude 3–4 (TPT)
Dearly loved friend, I was fully intending to write to you about our amazing salvation we all participate in, but felt the need instead to challenge you to vigorously defend and contend for the beliefs that we cherish. For God, through the apostles, has once for all entrusted these truths to his holy believers.
There have been some who have sneaked in among you unnoticed. They are depraved people whose judgment was prophesied in Scripture a long time ago. They have perverted the message of God’s grace into a license to commit immorality (lasciviousness) and turn against our only absolute Master, our Lord Jesus Christ.
Lord, despotes (des-pot-ace); Strong’s #1203: The origin of the English word “despot.” The word signifies owner, master, one who has absolute dominion, supreme authority, and unlimited power arising from ownership. Despotes includes total submission on our part to God’s will, not out of slavish fear or bondage, but joyfully and willingly.
But Jesus answered him, saying, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.’ ”
Deuteronomy 8:3 (NSFLB)
“So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.
Isaiah 5:20–21 (NSFLB)
Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, And prudent in their own sight!
Psalm 50:16–17 (TPT)
And now I speak to the wicked. Listen to what I have to say to you! What right do you have to presume to speak for me and claim my covenant promises as yours?
For you have hated my instruction and disregarded my words, throwing them away as worthless!
“If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you.
Luke 6:26 (NSFLB)
Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for so did their fathers to the false prophets.
James 4:14 (NSFLB)
whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.
Do not comfort someone who’s rushing toward hell.
“The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me because I testify of it that its works are evil.
1 john 3 (Cain killed Abel because Abel’s actions showed how “off” Cain’s actions were.)
And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.
I PREACH ONLY TO PLEASE GOD, NOT TO AVOID OFFENDING THE WORLD
