Welcome

The Lord’s Supper

12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt that night, and I will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and on all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am the LORD.

13 The blood shall be a sign for you, on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you, when I strike the land of Egypt.

14 “This day shall be for you a memorial day, and you shall keep it as a feast to the LORD; throughout your generations, as a statute forever, you shall keep it as a feast.

Examine your heart.
Read from Matt. 26:26-29.

Call to Worship

13 “I saw in the night visions,

and behold, with the clouds of heaven

there came one like a son of man,

and he came to the Ancient of Days

and was presented before him.

14 And to him was given dominion

and glory and a kingdom,

that all peoples, nations, and languages

should serve him;

his dominion is an everlasting dominion,

which shall not pass away,

and his kingdom one

that shall not be destroyed.

Prayer.
Stand for Worship.

Introduction

Who: Matthew
One of Jesus’ 12 Disciples (Matt. 9:9).
Also called Levi in Mark and Luke’s Gospels.
Appeals to a Jewish audience.
Matthew’s goal is to show that Jesus is the Messiah.
When: c. AD 31
After Jesus’ resurrection.
Where: Galilee
Possibly on Mount Hermon, along the northern edge of Bashan;
or maybe Mount Tabor, southwest of the sea of Galilee, where Peter and John witnessed Jesus’ Transfiguration.

16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them.

17 And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted.

18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Some doubted:

The Greek verb used here implies hesitation or indecision, rather than unbelief. The disciples are struggling to comprehend what they are witnessing.

God Gives All Authority to Jesus

Over the Elements
Wind and Waves (Matt. 8:23-27)
“And the men marveled, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey Him?”
Walked on Water (Matt. 14:22-33)
“And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. And those in the boat worshipped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”
Multiplied Bread (Matt. 14:21; 15:38; 16:9-10)
“And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children.”
“Those who ate were four thousand men, besides women and children.”
Jesus said, “Do you not yet perceive? Do you not remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many baskets you gathered? Or the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many baskets you gathered?”
Over the Elements
Over Sickness and Disease
Jesus healed the blind, mute, deaf, lame, and sick—and countless others!
Over the Elements
Over Sickness and Disease
Over Demonic Spirits
When Jesus had traveled into Gentile territory with his disciples, he was met by two demon possessed men (Matt. 8:28-34).
“And behold, they cried out, “What have you to do with us, O Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?”
Over the Elements
Over Sickness and Disease
Over Demonic Spirits
Over Sin and Death
Jesus has the power to forgive sins (Matt. 9:2; 26:28).
“And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Take heart, my son; your sins are forgiven.”
“for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.”
Jesus’ resurrection proved that ever word he said was true.
He is the Son of God; He has all authority; and thus we obey him!

God Commands His People to Multiply

Command: “Make Disciples”
We must “go” and tell the world.
Jesus said in Luke 4:43, “I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns as well; for I was sent for this purpose.”
Jesus went; Jesus preached; and He expects us to do the same.
Command: “Make Disciples”
We must “go” and tell the world.
We must “baptize” new believers.
Command: “Make Disciples”
We must “go” and tell the world.
We must “baptize” new believers.
We must “teach” them to “obey.”
That means sending them out to fulfill the Great Commission.

God Promises His Everlasting Presence

In the wilderness of Egypt, God dwelled in the cloud by day and fire by night.
Eventually, God would dwell with his people in the tabernacle and temple.
Then He sent His Son to dwell among us.
And before Jesus ascended into heaven, He promised to send a “helper.”
That Helper is the Holy Spirit.
Those of you who have personally chosen to follow Jesus Christ have received His Holy Spirit.
If you have not yet done so, today is the day.
Will you recognize the Power of Christ and submit to His authority?
Will you obey the Power of Christ by dedicating your life to sharing the gospel and teaching others about Jesus?
And will you trust in the Power of Christ to be with you and empower you to do all the work He has prepared?
If so, come and talk with me after the service.

to the end of the age Marked by Jesus’ second coming.

Conclusion
