Dear God, please help us to hear your voice as our true shepherd, guide us towards the abundance of life you offer, and protect us from harm. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Call to Worship

Come to the gate and find the Good Shepherd within.

We need a shepherd – round us up and bring us through your Gate, O Lord.

If you’re hungry or thirsty, the Good Shepherd will provide for your needs.

That is just what we need. Our souls thirst for God’s word.

Come, the Gate and the Shepherd await.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. AMEN.

Thank you, Lord, for all the wonderful gifts with which you have blessed our lives. Take these gifts, these tokens, and use them to build your realm, to heal the brokenhearted, bind up those who are wounded, welcome the stranger, and become the gate of hope, for we ask this in Jesus’ Name. AMEN.

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

Just when we think we can go no further, Jesus the Good Shepherd calls to us, bringing us safely into the fold of Grace and Mercy. Rejoice! You are loved completely and forgiven!

SCRIPTURE READING John 10: 1 - 10

1 Very truly, I tell you, anyone who does not enter the sheepfold by the gate but climbs in by another way is a thief and a bandit.

2 The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep.

3 The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep hear his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.

4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice.

5 They will not follow a stranger, but they will run from him because they do not know the voice of strangers."

6 Jesus used this figure of speech with them, but they did not understand what he was saying to them.

7 So again Jesus said to them, "Very truly, I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep.

8 All who came before me are thieves and bandits; but the sheep did not listen to them.

9 I am the gate. Whoever enters by me will be saved, and will come in and go out and find pasture.

10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly."
