Adoration: Omniscience

Lexham Survey of Theology (God’s Omniscience)
The Latin term scientia means “knowledge,” and the prefix omni- means “all”; hence omniscient means “all-knowing”
Lexham Survey of Theology (God’s Omniscience)
The attribute of omniscience refers to God’s perfect knowledge of both himself and that which he has created.
-Job asserts it simply:
Job 21:22 ESV
22 Will any teach God knowledge, seeing that he judges those who are on high?
Genesis 6:5 ESV
5 The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
Proverbs 15:3 ESV
3 The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.
Foundations of the Christian Faith: A Comprehensive & Readable Theology (The Threat of Omniscience)
We might think that God’s omniscience would be comforting to us in our natural state, for the belief that perfect knowledge exists (even though we do not possess it ourselves) should make the world less threatening.
Actually, the opposite is true.
To acknowledge that there is a God who knows everything about everything is also to acknowledge that such a God knows us. And because we don’t want some things about us to be known, we hide it—not only from others but also from ourselves as much as possible.
A God who thoroughly knows us is unsettling.
1 Kings 8:39 (ESV)
39 then hear in heaven your dwelling place and forgive and act and render to each whose heart you know, according to all his ways (for you, you only, know the hearts of all the children of mankind),
Jeremiah 17:10 ESV
10 “I the Lord search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds.”
Hebrews 4:13 ESV
13 And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
Psalm 33:13–15 ESV
13 The Lord looks down from heaven; he sees all the children of man; 14 from where he sits enthroned he looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth, 15 he who fashions the hearts of them all and observes all their deeds.
The context:
Psalm 33:10–12 ESV
10 The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; he frustrates the plans of the peoples. 11 The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of his heart to all generations. 12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!
Psalm 139:1–4 (ESV)
1 O Lord, you have searched me and known me!
2 You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar.
3 You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways.
4 Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.
Context:
Psalm 139:7 ESV
7 Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence?
Psalm 139:10 ESV
10 even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.
2 Chronicles 16:9 (ESV)
9 For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless toward him...
Isaiah 46:9–10 (ESV)
9 remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me,
10 declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose,’
Jeremiah 1:5 ESV
5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”
Matthew 6:8 ESV
8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
Matthew 10:29–31 ESV
29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. 30 But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.
John 2:24–25 ESV
24 But Jesus on his part did not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people 25 and needed no one to bear witness about man, for he himself knew what was in man.
Psalm 147:5 ESV
5 Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure.
Romans 11:33 ESV
33 Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!

Supplication:

Psalm 147:3–6 (ESV)
3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
4 He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names.
5 Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure.
6 The Lord lifts up the humble; he casts the wicked to the ground.
