Tell them to turn to the key passage
key passage: Genesis 1:26-27
Before we begin have someone read the camps key passage.
Good evening guys! thank you for joining us tonight. I hope you all have had fun today. as we have been going through our time together we have been exploring the topic of Love. on the first night we explored what Love really is according to scripture, yesterday we explored who God loves, and the theme for today is why does God love us. Why does God love us? Now some of us might have an easier time answering this question than others. take Ashton for instance I’m sure its really hard for him to come up with an answer sometimes but me? I’m just awesome that's why… I’m kidding I’m Kidding! He’s my brother I can pick on him!! The truth is that all of can struggle to answer that question. Why does God Love us? I know that I am in no way shape or form worthy of his love. If you read scripture then you start to realize that none of us are worthy of the love of God. none of us are deserving. In Hosea God compares the nation of Israel to a woman who is cheating on her husband all of the time. She’s supposed to be married to one man but she constantly gives herself to others. I think this description can fit us as well! We’re supposed to be God’s but we give ourselves away to other things all of the time. Why does God continue to love us? Lets explore that question tonight.
Read key passage:
26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
27 So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.

We are not thrown together randomly.
We are not thrown together randomly.
Now we know that our passage comes from the creation story but why am I bringing this up for the discussion of why God loves us?
Video game illustration:
Has anyone ever played a game where they get to design their character and choose what they look like? Some games take it a step further and let you choose what their character is talented at. In all of these video games there is always a randomize button for people who don’t really want to spend a lot of time on the character creation page. I say that to say this: when we are exploring the reasons behind why God loves you it is important to remember that God did not just randomly throw you together. There is not a randomize button when it comes to being created by God. For each person in this room God has carefully crafted knitted your body together.
this morning we touched on this topic when we were discussing the passage in Jeremiah 1:5
5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
and before you were born I consecrated you;
I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”
According to this passage God didn’t just mindlessly and sporadically decide to create you!!
God planned for you.
We are not thrown together randomly.
What does this say about our relationship with God?

God Planed for you!
God Made Us to Have Fellowship With Him.
God Made Us to Have Fellowship With Him.
When the world was created it was not God’s intention for us to struggle with death and deal with the heartaches and struggles of this world. When God fashioned and formed us he made us to be in fellowship with him. So keep in mind that when God fashioned and formed you, he made you to be with him.
8 And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.
A couple of things to note:
Adam and Eve recognized the sound of God walking in the garden.
Adam and Eve were able to be in close proximity to God in their time in the garden.
God made us to have fellowship with him.
What does this tell you about why God loves you?

God Knows Us.
God Knows Us.
One author of Psalms wrote that God has searched him and knows him.
1 O Lord, you have searched me and known me!
2 You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
you discern my thoughts from afar.
3 You search out my path and my lying down
and are acquainted with all my ways.
4 Even before a word is on my tongue,
behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.
5 You hem me in, behind and before,
and lay your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
it is high; I cannot attain it.
God Made Us In His Image.
God Made Us In His Image.
Read key passage: Genesis 1:26-27
26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
27 So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.
What I believe is one of the most significant passages reflecting the reason behind God’s love for us is this.
God didn’t just plan for us. God didn’t just make us to have fellowship with him. but God crafted us in his very image. In every way he is a father to us. we are reflections of him.
Father Illustration:
It reminds me of this time I accidentally locked my keys in my tuck. I was in fayetville at the time. I was attending some classes at the university of Arkansas. I was about an hour and a half from home and the only other key to my vehicle. So like any other kid who’s in a pickle, I called my dad. My dad did not have to travel all the way over to fayetville to unlock my truck for me. He could have made me pay to have a locksmith open my truck door for me. instead my dad dropped what he was doing and brought me the spare key to my vehicle. Why in the world did he do this? There is a love that fathers have for their kids. if you recall we went over that passage about earthly fathers giving good things to their kids despite them being evil. If our earthly dads love us. then you can bet your bottom dollar that our heavenly father loves us.
God made us in his image.
What does being made in his own image mean when we are considering Gods love for us?
