How do we lose our intimacy

The parables of Luke 15

I believe gives us insight to this

Luke 15:3–7 CSB
So he told them this parable: “What man among you, who has a hundred sheep and loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open field and go after the lost one until he finds it? When he has found it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders, and coming home, he calls his friends and neighbors together, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, because I have found my lost sheep!’ I tell you, in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who don’t need repentance.
we know this parable. it has a happy ending. let us ponder on not the result nut the reason the sheep needed to be found.
It had wandered off.
“There once was a shepherd with a hundred lambs, but one of his lambs wandered away and was lost. So the shepherd left the ninety-nine lambs out in the open field and searched in the wilderness for that one lost lamb. He didn’t stop until he finally found it. With exuberant joy, he raised it up, placed it on his shoulders, and carried it back with cheerful delight!
the passion translation
We turn aside to distractions.
we can focus on the world and things of the world that cause us to stop or even turn-aside to it. pleasure activities and people can cause us to be distracted from the Lord.
illustration: that has been used is that christian life is walk down the street and and your headed to your destination but Satan puts things in the windows to distract you from moving forward.
Matthew 14:22–31 (CSB)
22 Immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. 23 After dismissing the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. Well into the night, he was there alone. 24 Meanwhile, the boat was already some distance from land, battered by the waves, because the wind was against them. 25 Jesus came toward them walking on the sea very early in the morning. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost!” they said, and they cried out in fear.
27 Immediately Jesus spoke to them. “Have courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”
28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter answered him, “command me to come to you on the water.”
29 He said, “Come.”
And climbing out of the boat, Peter started walking on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the strength of the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me!”
31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand, caught hold of him, and said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”
we are to keep our eyes on Jesus!
Hebrews 12:1–2 (CSB)
12 Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every hindrance and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us, keeping our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. For the joy that lay before him, he endured the cross, despising the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Luke 15:8–9 (CSB)
“Or what woman who has ten silver coins,, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully until she finds it? When she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, because I have found the silver coin I lost!’
How do we lose our belongings?
Lorena second set of keys to the Kia. we paid $150 for the first set. I lost the key by not hanging it up on the holder in the kitchen. its where we put all the keys.
We are carelessness and do not take precautions.
We fail to guard our hearts and minds, and when temptation comes we are not strong enough to resist. the sin robs us of intimacy .
Proverbs 4:23 (CSB)
23 Guard your heart above all else,
for it is the source of life.
Luke 15:11–16 (CSB)
THE PARABLE OF THE LOST SON
11 He also said, “A man had two sons. 12 The younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of the estate I have coming to me.’ So he distributed the assets to them. 13 Not many days later, the younger son gathered together all he had and traveled to a distant country, where he squandered his estate in foolish living. 14 After he had spent everything, a severe famine struck that country, and he had nothing. 15 Then he went to work for one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed pigs. 16 He longed to eat his fill from the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one would give him anything.
in this parable we see it as an intentional choice.
The son willing chose to leave.
What is the answer for returning to God?
from the Old Testament
2 Chronicles 7:14 CSB
and my people, who bear my name, humble themselves, pray and seek my face, and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.
from the New Testament
James 4:7–10 CSB
Therefore, submit to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be miserable and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.
Out of these 2 passages we can draw 4 things we must do to return to God!
We must Humble our selves !
We must Pray !
Prayer is more than us giving our request to the Lord it is us listening. to him.
We must seek Him!
We must Turn/ Repent !
