Sermon in a sentence
: A lot of people follow Jesus for the wrong reasons.
Jesus had a lot of fans (vs. 7-12)
The large crowds were following Jesus for temporary salvation.
Jesus was reversing the curse, but they weren’t paying attention.
Jesus had just a few followers (vs. 13-20)
Jesus chose this small group of followers with all of their shortcomings.
Even Jesus’ own family thought he was crazy!
This gives historical credibility to Mark’s account.
These men were given new identities and positions.
Jesus had plenty of fake followers (vs. 22-35)
The Pharisees followed Jesus only to discredit him.
Jesus demonstrated that he had divine authority, not the authority of Satan.
Jesus also creates a new family.
