Free to be Sons not Slaves.
Free to be Sons not Slaves.
The ancient practice of adopting slaves as sons.
5 “But if the slave plainly says, ‘I love my master, my wife and my children; I will not go out as a free man,’ 6 then his master shall bring him to God, then he shall bring him to the door or the doorpost. And his master shall pierce his ear with an awl; and he shall serve him permanently.
Love for Jesus is the key in order to have the freedom that Jesus gives. Only those who hate their sin and being enslaved to it; will find what Jesus offers to be the freedom they desire. Those who no longer want to be slaves are able to be made son through Jesus.
4 But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, 5 so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. 6 Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” 7 Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God.

A. Rules vs. Relationship.
A. Rules vs. Relationship.
› The law has no relationship with you. It is not mindful of the person or their status- it can’t be it remains neutral and is blind to the person.
Sons receive the privileges of the family. They receive the love, the status, the inheritance regardless of the rules for simply who they are- sons.

33 But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

It seeks to restrict and is intended to prevent someone from reaching their full potential (given their sinful state).

He makes slaves that have nothing, into sons that inherit everything.

A Child of God is not left with rules but is met with a loving Father, a leading Brother, and a guiding Spirit. The Lord brings the relationship that the Law could not.
› Rule enforcement is for slaves, but spirit empowerment is for Sons.

18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
Romans 8:14–16 NASB95
14 For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. 15 For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God,
Acquiring the Spirit.
Acquiring the Spirit.
1) Believe in God the Son- Jesus.
13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit,
2) Ask God the father.
13 “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?”
3) Ask God the Spirit for his presence to grow in you. Self control, patience.
4) Acknowledge the Spirit. You see patience and self control acknowledge it as the work of the spirit.
5) Assess the Spirit. Listen to what they are prompted to do but still unsure. Trust that it maybe the spirit. When you assess the spirit you learn more how to recognize what is of spirit and what is not.
6) Accommodate the Spirit. The spirit accompanies God’s Word. A life empowered by the Spirit is also a life in God’s Word.

› Heir to the kingdom. Some of you live like you have no regard or care that you have been made an heir. You act like prince Harry who doesn’t want, desire, or appreciate his inheritance. You’d rather denounce your legacy as sons and chase the desires of your flesh- which according to the bible makes you a slave. You put back on the “yoke of slavery” you love for Jesus has waned, his what He has done for you has lost its effect.
› “I love the life I built for myself so I don’t want the life that Christ offers me.”

c. Sons rely on their Father and seek His will.

› Fullness of time- God has a plan and is working it out. He is never late nor too early. Executes his will perfectly. We may have our opinions and our own interests that we impose upon Him. Because of sin our hearts are more concerned for our will than His. This is why we are impatient. Why we groan. Why we shake our fists with God when things don’t go our way. But God has the whole world in His hands and is executing his perfect will and goodness upon it and it comes at the perfect time. This requires faith, trusting in God to make all things that are bad- good. May we Pray, “Not our will, but thine.” And while you wait God has instill a guardian to guard you and keep you. A steward that tends to your life until the appointed time.
a son delights in the Father’s will because he knows that the father’s will is most wise, good, and the best. A son will not only delight in it, but also do whatever it takes to accomplish the Father’s will.

11 Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing.
25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.
7 but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
doesn’t bully but builds those cause there is enough negative self talk that he would rather be an agent of God than for Satan.
e. A son uses freedom to live rightly.
e. A son uses freedom to live rightly.
18 Now you are free from your slavery to sin, and you have become slaves to righteous living.
What is the purpose of freedom? It is the ability to live life in the right direction and living free to always be free. If we use our freedom to fall back into sin then that is not true freedom because it just leads back to slavery. True freedom is living in such a way as to always be free. Therefore, the purpose of freedom is to maintain being free through living rightly and doing what is good.
10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.
16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.

Eph 4:7 -“7 But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift.”
11 And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ. 14 As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming; 15 but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, 16 from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.
