Foundational Truth 7: Jesus Is Lord
Foundational Truth 7: Jesus Is Lord
Jesus saved us, and wants us to follow and serve Him with all our hearts and lives.
Relevant Bible Verses:
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;
1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Q: "What is a "Lord"?"
A: We don't have "Lords" in our modern, American culture, but they were basically like kings.

If you make someone your Lord, that means you will follow them anywhere and obey everything they command, no matter what. It means total and compete devotion.

Q: "How can I tell if Jesus is my Lord?"
A: If you believe that Jesus is the Son of God, that everything He said is true, and desire to follow Him and obey Him with your whole heart, then it is a good sign that He is your Lord. The good news is, unlike a normal human Lord, Jesus will always forgive you if you mess up and disobey Him, and allow you to continue being His.

Q: "What if God or Jesus told me to do something scary or painful? Do I still have to obey?"
Q: "What if God or Jesus told me to do something scary or painful? Do I still have to obey?"
A: There are lots of times in the Bible when God commands His people to do something that seems scary, or like it may even hurt them, but God ALWAYS has a plan to protect or save them. Like when Jesus told Peter to get out of the boat and walk on water with Him, even though getting into the stormy sea was certainly dangerous. But as long as Peter had faith and trusted Jesus, he was able to walk on water. Following Jesus is not always easy, fun, or comfortable, but it is always the best path and plan for your life.

It is not enough to just believe that Jesus is real (even the enemy believes that). You must make Jesus your Lord and give Him your total devotion, doing your best to follow and obey Him daily.

Having Jesus as your Lord (being completely surrendered to Him) is the only way to Heaven.
