LESSON 2

2. SECURITY OF THE BELIEVER

When we receive Jesus Christ as our Savior, He keeps us saved forever.

If Jesus Christ is 100% responsible for saving us (not by our good works or religion), then Jesus Christ is 100% responsible for keeping us saved. He won't fail in this task.

Verses teaching this are given below:

1) “I give unto them eternal life & they shall never perish" John 10:28.

John 10:28 KJV 1900
28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
Joh 10:28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

What does never perish mean?

2) "To an inheritance incorruptible, undefiled, and that fades not away, reserved in heaven for you,

Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation . . ." (1 Peter 1:4-5 ).

1 Peter 1:4–5 KJV 1900
4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, 5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
1Pe 1:4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,
1Pe 1:5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
Question: What 5 things in I Peter 1:4,5 show that Jesus Christ will keep us saved forever?

3) "For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord". (Romans 8:38,39).

Romans 8:38 KJV 1900
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Romans 8:39 KJV 1900
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Rom 8:38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Rom 8:39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Question: What 10 things cannot separate us from the love (salvation) of Christ? ______________

10. ___________________________

For a born again believer to be lost, he must somehow be separated from the love of Christ and become an object of God's wrath. Paul says that this is impossible. (II Timothy 4:18 )

2 Timothy 4:18 KJV 1900
18 And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
2Ti 4:18 And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

4) "The Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom".

5) "This is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life." (I John 2:25).

1 John 2:25 KJV 1900
25 And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.
1 John 2:25 And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.

Question: What has God promised those who receive Jesus Christ as Saviour? What is a promise?

6) "And am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day". (2 Timothy 1:12).

2 Timothy 1:12 KJV 1900
12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.
2Ti 1:12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

Paul committed the keeping of his soul to Christ to his heavenly kingdom.

7) "There is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth." (Luke 15:10).

Luke 15:10 KJV 1900
10 Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.
Luk 15:10 Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.

If we could lose salvation, angels would not rejoice until we entered heaven.

Question: Why is there joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents?

8) Six times God says that we can KNOW we have eternal life. (I Cor 6:2,3 )

1 Corinthians 6:2 KJV 1900
2 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?
1 Corinthians 6:3 KJV 1900
3 Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?
1 Corinthians 6:2 KJV 1900
2 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?
1 Corinthians 6:3 KJV 1900
3 Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?
1Co 6:2 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?
1Co 6:3 Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?

a) "Do ye not KNOW that the saints shall judge the world? KNOW that we shall judge angels?"

b) "Be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye KNOW that your labour is not in vain in the Lord". (I Corinthians 15:58).

1 Corinthians 15:58 KJV 1900
58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
1Co 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

If we led a person to Christ, then they lose salvation tomorrow, our labour would have been a waste of time. However, our labour is not in vain, because God keeps them saved, even if they backslide.

c) "KNOWING that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise us up also by Jesus, and shall present us with you". (II Corinthians 4:14).

2 Corinthians 4:14 KJV 1900
14 Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you.
2Co 4:14 Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you.

d) "We KNOW that . . . we have . . . an house . . . eternal in the heavens." (II Corinthians 5:1).

2 Corinthians 5:1 KJV 1900
1 For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
2Co 5:1 For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

e) "We KNOW that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him". (I John 3:2).

1 John 3:2 KJV 1900
2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
1Jn 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

f) "These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God: that ye may KNOW that ye have eternal life". (I John 5:13).

1 John 5:13 KJV 1900
13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
1Jn 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

Q: What are 6 things we know if we are saved?

4. ____________________________5. ___________________________6. ________________________

9) Believers are predestined (or guaranteed by God) to be conformed to the image of Christ in heaven. This means that there is no possibility of believers losing salvation. "For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son". (Romans 8:29).

Romans 8:29 KJV 1900
29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
Rom 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

10) Ten things that "SHALL BE", prove Christ keeps us saved:

a) “We shall all be changed” I Cor15:51

1 Corinthians 15:51 KJV 1900
51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
1Co 15:51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

b) "Then shall ye also appear with him in glory." (Colossians 3:4)

Colossians 3:4 KJV 1900

Rom 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

d) "They which receive . . . the gift of righteousness shall reign in life". (Romans 5:17).

Romans 5:17 KJV 1900
17 For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)
Rom 5:17 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)

e) "He that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies". (Romans 8:11).

Romans 8:11 KJV 1900
11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
Rom 8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

f) "The glory which shall be revealed in us". (Romans 8:18).

Romans 8:18 KJV 1900
18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
Rom 8:18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

g) "Who shall also confirm you unto the end." (I Corinthians 1:8).

1 Corinthians 1:8 KJV 1900
8 Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
1Co 1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

h) "Shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you". (II Corinthians 4:14).

2 Corinthians 4:14 KJV 1900
14 Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you.
2Co 4:14 Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you.

i) "When he shall appear, we shall be like him". (I John 3:2).

1 John 3:2 KJV 1900
2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
1Jn 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

j) "Know ye not that we shall judge angels?" (I Corinthians 6:3).

1 Corinthians 6:3 KJV 1900
3 Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?
1Co 6:3 Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?

11) Jesus promises believers: "I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee" (Hebrews 13:5).

Hebrews 13:5 KJV 1900
5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
Heb 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

12) Believers are members of Christ's body: "Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular." (I Cor 12:27)

1 Corinthians 12:27 KJV 1900
27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.
1Co 12:27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.

Question: Will Christ permit His body to be dismembered? Never!

Question: Does this mean that believers can sin knowing that we can't lose our salvation?

No! Because:

a) Eternal consequences of sin are loss of rewards in heaven (I Corinthians 3:15),

1 Corinthians 3:15 KJV 1900
15 If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
1Co 3:15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

b) loss of Christ's approval (2 Cor 5:9),

2 Corinthians 5:9 KJV 1900
9 Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.
2Co 5:9 Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him

c) and being ashamed at Christ's second coming (I John 2:28).

1 John 2:28 KJV 1900
28 And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.
1Jn 2:28 And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.

d) Earthly consequences of sin are losing joy, peace, clear conscience, good name & others trust.

e) God will discipline us now if we sin continually (Heb 12:5-8).

Hebrews 12:5–8 KJV 1900
5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: 6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. 7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? 8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
Heb 12:5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:
Heb 12:6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
Heb 12:7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
Heb 12:8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

f) Being chastened by God proves our salvation is permanent. "If ye endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons" Heb 12:7

Hebrews 12:7 KJV 1900
7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
Heb 12:7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

How to Be Spiritually Intelligent

1. Know that sin causes trouble, pain, suffering, fear, problems, conflicts, broken relationships, depression. Avoid sin.

2. Understand that Jesus Christ is God in the flesh, our Creator, Saviour from sin, friend and returning King of Kings.

3. Get saved early in life. “Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth.” Eccles 12:1. (Jeremiah 15:16

Ecc 12:1 Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;

Mat 16:3 And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?

1Ch 12:32 And of the children of Issachar, which were men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do; the heads of them were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their commandment.

11. Be a qualified leader. “able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness.” Exodus 18:21; Matt 20:27.

Exo 18:21 Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:
