Philippians 4:7

Just a little peace and quiet.

a. It is such a precious thing.
i. I will go to great lengths to have it.

iii. Easy chair - the lake - mountain stream – cabin – woods – relaxing beach
b. There is just one problem.
i. It’s only temporary.

a. It’s nothing new.
i. We can go all the way back to the beginning of time.
ii. Genesis 2:25 (NIV) — 25 Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.

iii. It is the picture of peace.
iv. In our wrapped world our senses are shocked at the thought of them walking around without clothes.
v. We have often missed the highlight of this whole chapter.

Chaos and confusion are introduced.
i. The tempter comes with his lies.
ii. Genesis 3:10 (NCV) — 10 The man answered, “I heard you walking in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked, so I hid.”

c. We have not had a moments peace since that day.
i. You can look for all the peaceful moments you want.
ii. It will always be fleeting.
iii. We can some temporary relief, but it will never last.
d. Listen to these words.
i. You will never have or experience lasting peace outside of Jesus.
God:

a. It’s pearl of great price.
i. Matthew 13:45–46 (NKJV) — 45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, 46 who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.

ii. The peace of God is that valuable.
iii. We long for a sense of tranquility that can calm our anxious hearts.
iv. A PEARL OF GREAT PRICE
b. Listen to the beauty of this verse!
i. This is a verse calms the fiercest storm.
ii. Philippians 4:7 (NLT) — 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

c. It is not a temporary or superficial peace.
i. It’s divine and supernatural peace.
ii. It’s a peace that radiates from the very nature of God.
iii. This peace is a reflection of his character his mercy his grace
iv. We are naked and ashamed
v. God’s peace is the blanket that covers our nakedness.
vi. It is beyond our comprehension.
vii. It will surpasses the limitations of our circumstances.
viii. “When we encounter the peace of God, we are encountering something beyond ourselves—something heavenly and eternal.”
d. The peace of God will guard our hearts and minds.
i. The word "guard" implies protection and security.
ii. Just as a sentinel stands watch over a fortress, God's peace stands as a guardian around our hearts and minds.
iii. It shields us from the anxiety, fear, and turmoil that often seek to overwhelm us.
iv. When we invite God's peace into our lives,
1. It becomes a powerful shield that deflects the arrows of doubt, worry, and despair.

i. The promise of God’s peace is connected to our relationship with Christ.
ii. It is in Jesus that we find true peace.
iii. When we surrender our lives to Him.
iv. Trust in his sovereign grace
v. Abide in His love.
vi. We will experience the peace that surpasses all understanding.
b. Three practical ways to tap into God’s peace.
i. 1. We can begin by cultivating a consistent prayer life, pouring out our hearts before God and seeking His presence.
ii. We can meditate on His Word, allowing the truth of Scripture to shape our thinking and anchor our souls.
We can surrender our worries and anxieties to Him, placing our trust in His faithfulness and goodness.
iv. Let the peace of God flow into the deepest recesses of your soul.
v. Let it guard your hearts and mind.
