Study Notes Only Revelation 11
Then I was given a reed like a measuring rod. And the angel stood, saying,
1 Καὶ ἐδόθη μοι κάλαμος ὅμοιος ῥάβδῳ,καὶ ὁ ἄγγελος εἰστήκει λέγων,
Rise and measure the temple of God, the altar, and those
Έ̓γειραι, καὶ μέτρησον τὸν ναὸν τοῦ Θεοῦ, καὶ τὸ θυσιαστήριον, καὶ τοὺς
who worship there.
προσκυνοῦντας ἐν αὐτῷ.
But leave out the court which is outside the temple, and do not measure it, for it has been
2 καὶ τὴν αὐλὴν τὴν ἔξωθεν τοῦ ναοῦ ἔκβαλε ἔξω, καὶ μὴ αὐτὴν μετρήσῃς, ὅτι ἐδόθη
given to the Gentiles. And they will tread the holy city underfoot for forty-two months.
τοῖς ἔθνεσι· καὶ τὴν πόλιν τὴν ἁγίαν πατήσουσι μῆνας τεσσεράκοντα δύο.
And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy one thousand two
3 καὶ δώσω τοῖς δυσὶ μάρτυσί μου, καὶ προφητεύσουσιν ἡμέρας χιλίας διακοσίας
hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth.
ἑξήκοντα, περιβεβλημένοι σάκκους.
These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands standing before the God of the earth.
4 οὗτοί εἰσιν αἱ δύο ἐλαῖαι, καὶ αἱ δύο λυχνίαι αἱ ἐνώπιον τοῦ Θεοῦ τῆς γῆς ἑστῶσαι.
And if anyone wants to harm them, fire proceeds from their mouth and
5 καὶ εἴ τις αὐτοὺς θέλῃ ἀδικῆσαι, πῦρ ἐκπορεύεται ἐκ τοῦ στόματος αὐτῶν, καὶ
devours their enemies. And if anyone nts to harm them, he must be killed
κατεσθίει τοὺς ἐχθροὺς αὐτῶν· καὶ εἴ τις αὐτοὺς θέλῃ ἀδικῆσαι, οὕτω δεῖ αὐτὸν
in this manner.
ἀποκτανθῆναι.
These have power to shut heaven, so that no rain falls in the days of
6 οὗτοι ἔχουσιν ἐξουσίαν κλεῖσαι τὸν οὐρανόν, ἵνα μὴ βρέχῃ ὑετὸς ἐν ἡμέραις τῆς
their prophecy; and they have power over waters to turn them to blood, and
προφητείας, καὶ ἐξουσίαν ἔχουσιν ἐπὶ τῶν ὑδάτων, στρέφειν αὐτὰ εἰς αἷμα, καὶ
to strike the earth with all plagues, as often as they desire.
πατάξαι τὴν γῆν πάσῃ πληγῇ, ὁσάκις ἐὰν θελήσωσι.
When they finish their testimony, the beast that ascends out of the bottomless pit
7 καὶ ὅταν τελέσωσι τὴν μαρτυρίαν αὐτῶν, τὸ θηρίον τὸ ἀναβαῖνον ἐκ τῆς ἀβύσσου
will make war against them, overcome them, and kill them.
ποιήσει πόλεμον μετ ̓ αὐτῶν, καὶ νικήσει αὐτοὺς, καὶ ἀποκτενεῖ αὐτούς.
And their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city which spiritually
8 καὶ τὰ πτῶματα αὐτῶν ἐπὶ τῆς πλατείας πόλεως τῆς μεγάλης, ἥτις καλεῖται
is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.
πνευματικῶς Σόδομα καὶ Αἴγυπτος, ὅπου καὶ ὁ Κύριος ἡμῶν ἐσταυρώθη.
Then those from the peoples, tribes, tongues, and nations will see their dead
9 καὶ βλέψουσιν ἐκ τῶν λαῶν καὶ φυλῶν καὶ γλωσσῶν καὶ ἐθνῶν τὰ πτῶματα αὐτῶν
bodies three-and-a-half days, and not allow their dead bodies to be put into graves.
ἡμέρας τρεῖς καὶ ἥμισυ, καὶ τὰ πτώματα αὐτῶν οὐκ ἀφήσουσι τεθῆναι εἰς μνῆματα.
And those who dwell on the earth will rejoice over them, make merry,
10 καὶ οἱ κατοικοῦντες ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς χάρουσιν ἐπ ̓ αὐτοῖς καὶ εὐφρανθήσονται, καὶ
and send gifts to one another, because these two prophets tormented those who dwell
δῶρα πέμψουσιν ἀλλήλοις, ὅτι οὗτοι οἱ δύο προφῆται ἐβασάνισαν τοὺς κατοικοῦντας
on the earth.
ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς.
Now after the three-and-a-half days the breath of life from God entered
11 καὶ μετὰ τὰς τρεῖς ἡμέρας καὶ ἥμισυ, πνεῦμα ζωῆς ἐκ τοῦ Θεοῦ εἰσῆλθεν ἐπ̓
them, and they stood on their feet, and great fear fell on those αὐτούς, καὶ ἔστησαν ἐπὶ τοὺς πόδας αὐτῶν, καὶ φόβος μέγας ἔπεσεν ἐπὶ τοὺς
who saw them.
θεωροῦντας αὐτούς.
And they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, Come up here.
12 καὶ ἤκουσαν φωνὴν μεγάλην ἐκ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ, λέγουσαν αὐτοῖς, Ἀνάβητε ὧδε. καὶ
And they ascended to heaven in a cloud, and their enemies saw them.
ἀνέβησαν εἰς τὸν οὐρανὸν ἐν τῇ νεφέλῃ. καὶ ἐθεώρησαν αὐτοὺς οἱ ἐχθροὶ αὐτῶν.
In the same hour there was a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell.
13 καὶ ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ὥρᾳ ἐγένετο σεισμὸς μέγας, καὶ τὸ δέκατον τῆς πόλεως ἔπεσε,
In the earthquake seven thousand people were killed, and the rest
καὶ ἀπεκτάνθησαν ἐν τῷ σεισμῷ ὀνόματα ἀνθρώπων, χιλιάδες ἑπτά· καὶ οἱ λοιποὶ
were afraid and gave glory to the God of heaven.
ἔμφοβοι ἐγένοντο, καὶ ἔδωκαν δόξαν τῷ Θεῷ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ.
