God Hears Me

Opening

Have you ever felt like no one can hear you? Maybe you’re trying to tell someone something important, and they just don’t seem to hear you or understand or maybe even care. It isn’t a good feeling isn’t it? We want to be heard. We want to be cared for and understood.

Thankfully for us, God hears us, and he cares about us! Don’t believe me? His Word tell us so.

Let’s look at a story where God heard His people’s cry for help, and because of that, He intervened and promised to deliver them from slavery.

Main Point

Our main point for today’s lesson is this:

When we talk to God, He hears us!

Object Lesson

Here’s a whistle. Maybe your coach or someone would need to use this in order to get your attention so that you could hear them. With God, we do not have to use a whistle. We don’t have to yell as loud as we can. We can simply pray to Him, and He hears what we are saying!

Just like in our story today, when God’s people were in slavery and wanted to be free. They cried out to God, and guess what? He heard their cries and told them this:

Exodus 3:7–10 CSB

7 Then the Lord said, “I have observed the misery of my people in Egypt, and have heard them crying out because of their oppressors. I know about their sufferings, 8 and I have come down to rescue them from the power of the Egyptians and to bring them from that land to a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey—the territory of the Canaanites, Hethites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites. 9 So because the Israelites’ cry for help has come to me, and I have also seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing them, 10 therefore, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh so that you may lead my people, the Israelites, out of Egypt.”

We can be sure that God hears us when we cry out to Him.

When God Doesn’t Answer The Way We Desire

Now, when we cry out to God or pray to Him about things, does that mean He will answer everything we ever pray? No! God isn’t our genie in a bottle where we have unlimited wishes. He hears us, but sometimes answers us in ways that we didn’t expect, or maybe didn’t want.

However, we can know for certain that He is good, and if we are His children, He will do what is best for us!

Gospel

You want to know what else God hears? Our cries for Him to save us. When we repent of our sins and turn to Jesus in faith, He sees us, He hears us, and He saves us. Isn’t that such an amazing truth? The God of the Universe, who created all things including you and me, knows us, sees us, and hears us when we cry out to Him.

Just like God used Moses to save the Israelites, He has sent someone to save us: Jesus! All who repent of their sins and trust in Jesus will be saved. We can be sure of this truth.
