Introduction
Tomorrow marks the 247th year since America became a sovereign country.
We have never been more unified as a country than when we first formed.
Our pledge of allegiance, written in 1892 proclaims that unity in the line “one nation under God, indivisible” (under God was not added until 1954).
The founding fathers believed political parties would damage the American system of government, yet less than 20 years after America’s formation political parties formed.
This is the start of our divide, and it has only gotten worse.
Now Democrats and Republicans can barely stay in the same state as each other, much less hold a reasonable conversation, much like the Jews and Romans, or Pharisees and Sadducees in Jesus’ time.
This division has spread to all facets of American culture, spread so far that there is division in nearly every household.
Which household is division the most dangerous? The church!
What When a House is Divided? Luke 11:14-20
What When a House is Divided? Luke 11:14-20
Jesus is accused of casting out devils with the power of Satan.
He tells them that a house divided against itself will fail.
However, He is unified with God, which is why He is able to do the things He can.
We see the result of division both in America and in the modern church (denominations are made from people splitting off)
Instead We Should be One Body in Christ 1 Corinthians 12:12-27
Instead We Should be One Body in Christ 1 Corinthians 12:12-27
Even though there are many of us, and we are all different we are one body in Christ.
Non-believers obviously aren’t part of the body of Christ, which is why the Great Commission is so important.
Each of us has a role to play in the Great Commission, but you can’t play your role if you have hate in your heart. (1 John 2:9)
Verse 26 says if one of us suffer , we all suffer, and if one of us rejoice we all rejoice. All of America was united at independence (rejoicing), and the second most united time in our history was 9/11. We all suffered that day.
Conclusion
Conclusion
If America is to be united like we were in the beginning, we will have to abandon our radical political leanings and turn ourselves fully toward God.
