Romans 5:1-11 Message Prep

July 16th, 2023

5 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. 6 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— 8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. 10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. 11 More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

Speakers:
Vallerie:

Mike:
3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

Jeremy: 6-8

6 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— 8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Main point: God’s love!
While we were still weak!
While we were still weak. We do not have the ability to save ourselves. We are weak, even though we want to do the right thing often times we end up doing what is wrong. You have got to know that there is nothing that you can do to save yourself. Not by going to church services, not be praying enough, not by doing good things for other people…
Christ died for the ungodly!
You have do what is wrong in God’s eyes. You do not live your life they way God wants you too. You are ungodly!
But Jesus died for the ungodly!
Scarcely die for a righteous person.
There are a few people that I would be willing to die for. You can probably relate to that, maybe your children, parents, certain family members/friends…
In contrast… even though we would be willing to for someone that we see as good... v8 Christ died for us while we were sinners!
BUT, God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us!
God shows His love!
(needs work) We must keep in mind that the gospel is a message of love! Even though we talk about sin and God’s wrath and the fact that He will punish sin, and you may experience shame or guilt… You must remember, even when you feel guilty for sin, that God loves you! If you feel bad about your sin that’s good. If you feel bad you gotta understand that Jesus died so that you could be forgiven. It’s becuase God wants you that He died for you!
While we were still sinners.
Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”
We recognize that every person has sinned against God. You might think that you’re a good person but the bible definition of a good person is someone who perfectly obeys the will of God. So if you’re not perfect, you are guilty of breaking God’s laws.
We tend to downplay our sin. We think that even though we know we do some things that are wrong sometimes, we don’t think we are that bad and we don’t think we deserve punishement. Romans 6:23For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Your sin is so bad that the only thing worthy enough to pay for it was the death of The Son of God! And God loves you so much that He willingly sent His son to die so that you could be forgiven!
Wayne:
9 Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. 10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. 11 More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.
