Show Me Your Glory

God’s glory is the sum of who He is — the sum of His attributes and divine nature. It is the manifestation of the perfection of all of his attributes. Or to say it another way, the glory of God is the splendor and brilliant beauty that shines through all of the divine attributes. The doctrine of the glory of God emphasizes his greatness and transcendence, his splendor and holiness. God is said in Scripture to be clothed with glory and majesty.
Psalm 104:1 “Bless the Lord, O my soul! O Lord my God, you are very great! You are clothed with splendor and majesty,”
Majesty: Greatness of appearance; dignity; grandeur; dignity of aspect or manner; the quality or state of a person or thing which inspires awe or reverence in the beholder.

The Lord’s Zeal for His Glory

Isaiah 42:8 “I am the Lord; that is my name; my glory I give to no other, nor my praise to carved idols.”
Isaiah 48:9-11 ““For my name’s sake I defer my anger; for the sake of my praise I restrain it for you, that I may not cut you off. Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have tried you in the furnace of affliction. For my own sake, for my own sake, I do it, for how should my name be profaned? My glory I will not give to another.

God’s Glory in Creation

Psalm 19:1 “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.”
Isaiah 43:6-7 “I will say to the north, Give up, and to the south, Do not withhold; bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the end of the earth, everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.””

God’s Glory Through Israel

Isaiah 49:3 “And he said to me, “You are my servant, Israel, in whom I will be glorified.””
Jeremiah 13:11 “For as the loincloth clings to the waist of a man, so I made the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah cling to me, declares the Lord, that they might be for me a people, a name, a praise, and a glory, but they would not listen.”
Exodus 14:4 “And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and he will pursue them, and I will get glory over Pharaoh and all his host, and the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord.” And they did so.”
Mention Jericho and Gideon (The army started out with 32,000. God said the people were too many, so everyone who was scared were sent home. He said 10,000 were too many, so he got it down to 300. 120,000 Midianites fell.)

The Glory of Christ

John 1:14 “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
Colossians 2:9 “For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily,”
John 17:1 “When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you,”
Ephesians 1:11-12 “In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory.”
John 17:5 “And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed.”
John 17:24 “Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world.”
Revelation 21:23 “And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb.”
Philippians 2:9-11 “Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
Matthew 5:16 “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
1 Corinthians 10:31 “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
