Why Does God Love Us?

God Is Jealous For Us.

Exodus 34:14 ESV

14 (for you shall worship no other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God),

God considers us to be his. He created us and his intention was for us to be in a relationship with him. Scripture tells us that our God is a jealous God. He does not appreciate it when we are worshipping other things in life or when we are pursuing idols. God loves us because we were meant to be his people.

God is jealous for us.

What does the jealousy of God say about his love for us?

God Is Our Heavenly Father.

Isaiah 64:8 ESV

8 But now, O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.

Matthew 7:11 ESV

11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

These two passages testify to the fact that God is considered to be our heavenly father. This concept was not just a new testament Idea but it was also proclaimed in Isaiah.

God Is our Heavenly Father.

Why understanding that God is our heavenly father important when we are trying to understand why God loves us?

So why does God love us? we will explore this subject more later tonight but it is important to understand that we were meant to be his people and that according to Gods own word he is our heavenly father.
