Psalm 33:1–22

I. His righteousness—vv. 1–5

Psalm 33:1–5 “1 Let the godly sing for joy to the Lord; it is fitting for the pure to praise him. 2 Praise the Lord with melodies on the lyre; make music for him on the ten-stringed harp. 3 Sing a new song of praise to him; play skillfully on the harp, and sing with joy. 4 For the word of the Lord holds true, and we can trust everything he does. 5 He loves whatever is just and good; the unfailing love of the Lord fills the earth.”

Verses 1-5 focuses on a few things:

A. Praise—v. 1. Rejoice in the Lord! Nothing defeats Satan more than praise for the Lord.

B. Plan—v. 2. Praise the Lord with the harp and guitar. Many churches have instruments other than the piano and organ. If Satan can use instruments, why can’t God use them in the churches?

C. Person—v. 3. We sing a new song after we are made new in Christ.

D. Perfection—v. 4. “For all God’s words are right, and everything he does is worthy of our trust”

E. Personality—v. 5. “He loves whatever is just and good; the earth is filled with his tender love” .

II. God’s reality, can we really grasp the reality, the majesty, the glory: —vv. 6–12

Psalm 33:6–12 “6 The Lord merely spoke, and the heavens were created. He breathed the word, and all the stars were born. 7 He assigned the sea its boundaries and locked the oceans in vast reservoirs. 8 Let the whole world fear the Lord, and let everyone stand in awe of him. 9 For when he spoke, the world began! It appeared at his command. 10 The Lord frustrates the plans of the nations and thwarts all their schemes. 11 But the Lord’s plans stand firm forever; his intentions can never be shaken. 12 What joy for the nation whose God is the Lord, whose people he has chosen as his inheritance.

A. God’s Power, we see it throughout the day, we usually dismiss it don’t we?—vv. 6, 7. “He merely spoke, and the heavens were formed, and all the galaxies of stars. He made the oceans, pouring them into his vast reservoirs, telling the great waters where to stop.

B. Praise—v. 8. All people should respect and honor God since He is over all.

C. Personality—v. 9. Here we see God’s character; He speaks and it is done!

D. Plans—vv. 10, 11.

1. Power of His plans—v. 10. “And with a breath he can scatter the plans of all the nations who oppose him” .

2. Purity of His plans—v. 11. “But his own plan stands forever. His intentions are the same for every generation” (LB).

E. People—v. 12. The nation whose people belong to God is blessed.

III. God’s remembrance—vv. 13–22

A. Lets take a look at this place shall we?—vv. “13 The Lord looks down from heaven and sees the whole human race. 14 From his throne he observes all who live on the earth. 15 He made their hearts, so he understands everything they do. 16 The best-equipped army cannot save a king, nor is great strength enough to save a warrior. 17 Don’t count on your warhorse to give you victory— for all its strength, it cannot save you. 18 But the Lord watches over those who fearL him, those who rely on his unfailing love. 19 He rescues them from death and keeps them alive in times of famine. 20 We put our hope in the Lord. He is our help and our do shield. 21 In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. 22 Let your unfailing love surround us, Lord, for our hope is in you alone.”

verses 13, 14, 15 tells us that God watches us. He observes us here on earth. Does that do anything to any of you? An army cannot save a king—for great strength is not enough to save anyone. A war horse is a poor risk for winning victories—it is strong but cannot save” We should depend upon God alone!

C. Protection—vv. 18, 19. God’s eyes are upon His people; He will protect them!

D. Prayer—v. 20. Waiting before God is important and necessary.

E. Peace—v. 21. Rejoice in the Lord.

F. Plea—v. 22. God be with us and help us.
