I read a quote from a worship leader this week that said…
“There is no worship without awe and wonder. And the biggest robber of our awe and wonder is familiarity. I don’t ever want to become so “familiar” with the story of how Jesus came into this world that I cease to stand in awe and wonder.”
We all know this is true!
Amazing Grace is a beautiful song about God’s grace in the lives of sinners, but if we sang that song every week in church for the next 50 years, it would become so familiar that you wouldn’t even be thinking about the lyrics anymore.

Some of you will remember that I was the Worship Director here at LEMC from 2012 - 2019, and early on I really struggled to have the confidence to add new songs.
I was very worried what people would think, so we ended up recycling many of the same old songs over and over.
It made it very hard to pick songs because it felt like we were singing the same songs over and over, and it also made leading so much more challenging, because it was easy to check out since the songs is was so familiar.
Now, I’m not going to put all the blame on the songs, because I know my heart wasn’t always in the right place, but the more familiar something becomes, the less we notice it.
But then we hear a new song, that is speaking the same truth we have heard before but in a fresh new way, our hearts our once again in awe of the love, the compassion, the salvation of our mighty Saviour.
