Last week: We left on the call to live a life worthy of your calling.
Paul was pleading with the Christians to continue to grow and mature in the Lord.
The Mature Christian:
Is not blown around by new teaching
Speaks truth in love
Each person must do their part to create a healthy body (or church)
(V17) Live no longer as the Gentiles do, for they are...
Hopelessly confused
Mind full of darkness
No shame (Proud of the sinful lives)
They live for lustful pleasure
They practice every kind of impurity
Why? (V18) “Because they have closed their minds and hardened their heart against God”
2. (V20) But that isn’t what you have learned about Christ
A) Put to practice the things you have learned about Christ
We should stand out because we live different than the unbeliever
True salvation changes a person life
2 Cor 5:17 “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”
Every once in a while, I will meet someone that carries themselves in a noticeably different way. Their giving, nice, respectful, and trustworthy.
My first thought is, are they a Christian?
2. 1 (V23) Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes
A) Spending time in prayer and reading the Bible.
This will allow the Spirit to renew your thoughts and attitudes
As we spend time with God, we become more like him as the Spirit renews us
Reading the Bible, you can’t help but to be convicted
2.2 (V24) Our duty is to put on our new nature
A) Created to be like God
