Why are we talking about this?
The LORD desires you to identify with Him and His kingdom.
Our Savior, Jesus, came in order that we may be made right with God. Giving us freedom from sin through His sacrifice on the cross.
What does it say?
John 17:1-5 “When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you, since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do. And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed.”
What does it mean?
Jesus is God. He establishes His identity throughout scripture. He is the second person of the holy trinity; Father, Son, Spirit, and the only name under heaven that can save us -
Acts 4:12 “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.””
When Jesus talks about His authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom the Father has given, he is talking about anyone who has accepted Jesus as LORD and Savior.
He is also taking about His equality with the Father which is further expanded upon in -
John 14:6-7 “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.””
Finally when he talks about, “glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before...” we see it echoed in -
John 1:1-3 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.”
How should I respond?
3 points
Acknowledge the identity of Jesus, repent of your sins, and accept Him as savior.
Acknowledge - accept or admit the existence of truth. (Oxford)
Repent - feel or express sincere regret or remorse about one’s wrongdoing or sin. (Oxford)
Accept - believe or come to recognize (an opinion, explanation, etc) as valid or correct. (Oxford)
Jesus didn’t say or do anything He didn’t mean, and His disciples were careful to ensure His purposes were carried out.
He is our creator (John 1:3 “All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.” )
Jesus came to bring glory to our Father in heaven by paying our sin debt on the cross so we can be reconciled to Him and have eternal life.
Share your Testimony!
Salvation comes through Jesus alone, and the Gospel speaks to that; but don’t think that your story doesn’t matter!
We were created for relationship, we were created to worship God; the church is the gathering of the Body of Christ; the assembly of brothers and sisters in Christ for community & worship.
Glorify our Jesus by telling people about what He’s done for you & through you. Invite people to a relationship with Jesus.
Share the Gospel.
Tell people about Jesus.
The world is getting crazier by the day and many things are happening in the world that was foretold in the Bible:
2 Tim 3:2-4 “For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,”
Romans 1:18-32 goes into a lot of detail as well.
Don’t miss an opportunity to let people know there is hope in Jesus Christ!
And remember, you don’t have to have it all figured out, you can invite them to church/youth group so they can experience fellowship and the Gospel.
Mat 24:14 “And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”
