Standing on Our Own Two Feet

There comes a time in all our lives when we have to do something and God seems to tell us do it! I’ve taught you how now do it yourself!!! I don’t mean he leaves us I mean He wants us to see what he can enable us to do!

Matthew 14:13–21 (KJV)

13 When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out of the cities. 14 And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick. 15 And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals. 16 But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat. 17 And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes. 18 He said, Bring them hither to me. 19 And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. 20 And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full. 21 And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.

Verse 13-14 Jesus had just heard that john the Baptist was beheaded and he went to a desert place to be alone but when the people heard it they went too!

They went to –

a.       Be healed.

b.      Hear the gospel

c.       Be fed spiritually and later physically!

Verse 15 the day began to wear on and the apostles said the normal sensible thing – “send them away” so they can get a place to lodge, and get food Jesus was moved by compassion.

They saw a desert Jesus saw a chance to teach his disciples

Verse 13 He said “They don’t need to leave, You give them something to eat!”

James 2:16 (KJV)

16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?

What would you say if I asked you today to feed a group of 5,000 men and that’s not counting the women and children? With 5 barley loaves and 2 fishes, Where would you find what was needed?

Verse 17 Jesus said bring them to me.

Can’t find an answer to a problem you have? Jesus is your answer! Rely on Him

Jesus did this same miracle more than once! Don’t believe me?

Matthew 16:9–10 (KJV)

9 Do ye not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up? 10 Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?

Don’t know where you are going to be able to get what you need? Don’t know how that prayer is going to be answered? Give that problem to God he will supply your needs and more!
