More than just faithful, God is brilliant, powerful, and everlasting
This theophany seems to have a double meaning: looking to the past alongside a prophecy of the future

God’s Brilliance (vv. 3b-4)

It is beneficial that we gaze at the brilliance of God in humble adoration
v. 3b-4 points back to Mt. Sinai and the pillars of cloud and fire; it is also a confession of Hab. 2:20
God’s glory is the center of creation and uncreation (Phil. 2:5-11; Is. 48:3-13)
v. 4 shows the unmatched brilliance of our Lord -> This is unmatched even through the veiled version of it we see
Veiled glory -> Christ (most notable shining and action - don’t be hardened (Mt. 26:59-68)) -> fulness of glory (eternity of praise)
God is a God of infinite brilliance

God’s Power (vv. 4-6)

In His hand, through that glorious gospel, is the power to save (Rom. 1:15-17) and to judge (Rom. 1:18-23, 32)
As seen in the exodus of Egypt (salvation for Israel, plagues for Egypt)
As seen in the cornerstone (Mt. 21:42-44)
Measuring the earth signifies total control over it -> God is a God of infinite power

Eternal God (v. 6)

Those nations that seem eternal to Habakkuk will crumble and fade away, God will not
In God is eternal comfort for those resting in Him and eternal terror for those in rebellion
We must learn to think of God in a way that is beyond the finite realm of creation
By faith, Habakkuk has a lot stacking up to bring confidence and comfort in the eternally brilliant and powerful God!
