Psalm 34:3–4 (ESV)
3 Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together!
4 I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.
Introduction
Introduction
In this ancient song, David invites us to join him in praising God.
Verse 3 “Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together!”
David’s saying, “I have a reason to praise Him. Join me.”
What’s David’s reason?
Verse 4 “I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.”
What did David Do?
What did David Do?
He sought the Lord.
The original Hebrew behind this word gives us a better sense of the emotion and action behind what David did.
It means to try to get to or reach something.
or to address a question to and expect an answer from someone.
What did God do?
What did God do?
Two things:
He answered David.
He reacted.
He responded.
He delivered David.
He rescued him.
He freed him.
He protected him.
What did God deliver David from?
What did God deliver David from?
All his fears.
Not just some, friends.
All.
David says, “I cried out to God. I reached out to Him, expecting an answer, and He answered! He responded and freed me from all of my fears—both the thing that had me running scared and the anxiety brought on by that fear.”
God acted on David’s behalf to rescue him from the thing that caused his fear.
God’s presence quelled the anxiety that David was experiencing, because of the thing he feared.
How many of you know that sometimes the anxiety caused by the thing you’re afraid of is often worse than the thing you’re actually afraid of?
God Delivers Us From All Fear
God Delivers Us From All Fear
David is saying, ”This was my experience. It can be yours.”
As we sing this next song, will you join with people all across the world who are exalting the name of Jesus this morning?
If you have fear on your mind or in your heart, will you reach out to God like David did?
There will be people on either side of this stage who would love to pray with you.
Let’s magnify the Lord.
