Good morning Kids. We are so excited to teach you about Jesus and a few realities about His character.
Before we get there, we will have a theme verse this week that I want you to help me learn.
Psalm 25:4 “4 Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths.”
There is a phrase I like to say and that is that “following Jesus is the best decision anyone can make.” While I believe that statement with all of my life, I do believe you need to understand who Jesus is in order to follow Him wholehearted.
Today's story will explain what makes Jesus holy and how that changes everything.
The Bible is our instruction manual for life. Jesus asks us to follow Him and His example for us. He has the power to change our lives.
Today, we will read a story about men whose lives were changed when they learned that Jesus was someone they could trust and follow."
In today's Bible story we meet Peter, a fisherman by trade who probably had very clear expectations of his path and direction in life. One day, Peter had been fishing all night and was washing his nets near the shore where Jesus was teaching crowds of people. Perhaps Peter was listening to Jesus with curiosity at a distance as he cleaned his nets, unaware of the twist he was about to encounter.
Let’s read the Bible together
Luke 5:1-5 “1 One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, the people were crowding around him and listening to the word of God. 2 He saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. 3 He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat. 4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” 5 Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.”
I want you to notice Peter’s willingness to do what Jesus asked him to.
Luke 5:6-8 “6 When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. 7 So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink. 8 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!”
Peter sank to his knees in repentance and worship, recognizing that this miracle of fish was something only someone with God's power could do. Encountering Jesus changes everything.
Luke 5:9-11 “9 For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, 10 and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners. Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.” 11 So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.”
