Review:
God’s PLA for the earth; to be filled w his immage
Sin stimied God’s PLA
God started over:
First by kicking Adam and Eve out of the garden
Made the a promise (Gen 3:15)
Then by the flood
Also a promise
Where does the arrow point?
God holds himself hostage to his own word!
Genesis 10-11: The Tower of Babel
God has made a covenant with Noah, his kids have been divided...
Shem is blessed, Ham is cursed.
In the future chapters of the OT, almost every wicked nation we hear of is in the line of Ham!
Genesis 10:6 KJV 1900
6 And the sons of Ham; Cush, and Mizraim, and Phut, and Canaan.
Egypt, philistines, Nineveh, Babylon, Asyria and many more
But from Shem’s line come the promised one…
Genesis 11:26 KJV 1900
26 And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
Let’s look at Ham’s line...
Population is growing and we find a man named Nimrod.
Genesis 11:2 KJV 1900
2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.
This would also be called Babylonia.
Here in Shinar (Babylonia) religion would be born.
Religion
noun a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs. a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects:
Nimrod moves to Shinar to make a name for themselves rather than God.
Genesis 11:4 KJV 1900
4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
What had God told them to do? Be fruitful, multiply, subdue and fill the whole earth...
They did not want to do that!
Build this city with a tower that reached into heaven...
They would no longer need God!
Genesis 11:6 KJV 1900
6 And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
So the delusion of Eves sin would be complete.
Man would finally have tricked themselves into thinking that they did not need God!
God’s answer:
Genesis 11:9 KJV 1900
9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the Lord scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
The thing the did not want to do?
They did anyway!
Conclusion:
God always sets things in order!
God scatted people in the OT by causing them to speak different languages.
God gathered people together in the NT by causing them to speak in one language!
Acts 2:6 KJV 1900
6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.
In the OT Nimrod was his generation was trying to build a name for themselves…
But in Acts2.23 heard about one name… one man… one God… Jesus!
Acts 2:23 KJV 1900
23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:
Much of the message we hear today is based in false religion that Nimrod began...
Self help, look within, inner strength
Message of the Word of God is look to Jesus!
There was no tower in Acts, no temple because God’s temple is his people!
1 Corinthians 3:17 (KJV 1900)
17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.
Ephesians 2:10 KJV 1900
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
God is building the temple!
Not you, not me… GOD!
