Mark 5:24–34 NIV

So Jesus went with him. A large crowd followed and pressed around him. And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.” Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering. At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my clothes?” “You see the people crowding against you,” his disciples answered, “and yet you can ask, ‘Who touched me?’ ” But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.”

He was in a crowd!

31 - Seriously??? You are standing in a crowd…EVERYONE is touching your clothes...

33 - she came to Jesus and fell to her knees and told the truth and her story.

34 - Your faith has healed you… you are free from suffering.

Application

In a crowded place, where people were brushing up on all sides of Him, Jesus asked this question, not because He didn’t know who touched him, but because He wanted everyone else to know. Jesus was well aware of the woman who had been hemorrhaging for 12 long years and had spent every last cent she owned trying to get well, but only got worse.

He knew she was desperate to be healed. He knew what she risked by going out in public and touching a Rabbi, which would, under Jewish law, make Him ceremoniously unclean. Jesus asked the question because He wanted her to speak up. He wanted her story to be told.

In Mark 5:33, we read, “then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth.” She told her story—publicly. Everyone there suddenly knew who she was, what her condition had been, and how she had been healed by simply touching Jesus’ garment.

Leviticus 15:19–22 NIV

“ ‘When a woman has her regular flow of blood, the impurity of her monthly period will last seven days, and anyone who touches her will be unclean till evening. “ ‘Anything she lies on during her period will be unclean, and anything she sits on will be unclean. Anyone who touches her bed will be unclean; they must wash their clothes and bathe with water, and they will be unclean till evening. Anyone who touches anything she sits on will be unclean; they must wash their clothes and bathe with water, and they will be unclean till evening.

Have you experienced Jesus’ healing touch? Has He forgiven you and given you a new lease on life? Then tell your story so God will be glorified.

Are we THAT aware of our surroundings?

Do we believe THAT deeply in our relationship with Jesus.
