Living For More

When I young I remember there was a show called Pensacola: Wings of Gold and they had these Marine Fighter Pilots that flew the F-18 Hornet. Thats all I wanted to be for a while, until I found out my eye sight did not match up to what they want pilots to have.

But what did you want to be growing up.

The top “Dream Jobs” for kids are

Actor

Teacher

Pro Athlete

Firefighter

Police

Astronaut

Pilot

Veterinarian

Doctor

Maybe one of these takes you back

The point of this is as children we want to do something amazing with our lives and then you find out you are blind as a bat and can’t do the “Dream” job,

And many times we give up living for something more, because those jobs are all something better then others for us.

Maybe Today you are feeling like you are missing out on something

Like you feel like there is more and you are missing out.

Many people even give up because they feel like there is nothing for them

Or we keep chasing that “meaning” in things that leave us empty

then

We give into

addiction

Anger

a self defeating attitude

depression

All because we feel like there is more but we cannot achieve it.and we search for it in all the wrong places

Greg in This clip is seen high and running away from something that he was running towards

Before this clip Greg was seeking truth, understanding, in all the wrong places

He was search for more than what he was.

His search did not reveal what he was looking for and started down the path of drug addiction.

It got to the point where he seemed to want to escape what he had become.

When we look for meaning outside of Christ it will never fulfill us

it does not matter if you had gotten your dream job you still will be empty searching for more

John 10:10 NLT

The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.

With things of this world we will always be left searching for more

people that seek money

Will never have enough

people that seek fame

will always seek a bigger audience

People that seek power

will always look for ways to have more influence

But people who seek God will have

Galatians 5:22–23 NLT

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

When we follow Christ we Are living for more

Our lives have purpose

but we have to take that first step

Greg accepted Jesus into his life stepped out in faith

He took his faith seriously and found what He was missing.

When we are lost we will cling onto anything that we believe that will save us, but often we take the short cuts to be found

These short cuts are only bandaids that might help but if you put a bandaid on a gunshot it will not save you, it might at best stop for a brief moment but it still has not fixed the problem.

When we fill the gap that God is suppose with something other than God it might make it fill better for a moment but it will leave us broken, hopeless, and lost.

Lust

Work

These things might make you feel good, and like you have hope, but they do not help.

True Hope lies Beyond Superficial Comforts and Religious Assumptions

You might be thinking right now that “I’m a Christian, I have filled that gap with God, I am good.”

This is not just an issue from non-believers, Christians fall into this trap too.

We say we follow God

We believe that will follow God

We Come to Church

We go to Bible study

But we treat it like a check list

We don’t treat it like a relationship

We don’t treat it like it is, A soul saving , life changing, Hope giving, Life meaning relationship

We Are Meant For So Much More

Ephesians 2:10 NLT

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

In our pursuit of true meaning, when we choose to align with God's purpose, the emptiness we once feared fades away.

This doesn’t mean that you have to quit your job and become a missionary, “Well It might not”

What it means is that we seek God in everything we do, and when we feel the Spirit lead us we follow, even when it feels awkward, or scary.

Greg Stepped out in faith and lead a service

I can tell you that it does take a lot of faith to step out like that

He followed what God was leading

Matthew 14:22–33 NLT

Immediately after this, Jesus insisted that his disciples get back into the boat and cross to the other side of the lake, while he sent the people home. After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone. Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy waves. About three o’clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. When the disciples saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. In their fear, they cried out, “It’s a ghost!” But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage. I am here!” Then Peter called to him, “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.” “Yes, come,” Jesus said. So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he shouted. Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him. “You have so little faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt me?” When they climbed back into the boat, the wind stopped. Then the disciples worshiped him. “You really are the Son of God!” they exclaimed.

Peter stepped out in faith

But when he looked around he saw the storm

Much like when we search for meaning in other things

Peter Started to sink

Much like our faith does when we start trying to fill that Gap, find our meaning in other things

But Jesus was there to lift Peter back up

Just like He is when we reach out to Him

Its time to stop living for this world and living For Christ

You want to live a life of purpose, live a life for Him

But you might be thinking I work at ____ how can I make a difference

Billy Graham was able to speak to 215 million people and 3.2 million people gave there lives to Christ that they know of. But this would not have been possible without a farm hand named Albert McMakin (Mc-Make-in) Who persuaded him to see an evangelist name Mordecai Ham.

If it was not for Albert listening to the Spirits leading, Billy Graham would not have become the evangelist that he was and countless souls would not have been saved.

It does not matter what you do for a living, what matters is following God to the fullest.

Greg’s story did not end with him preaching to those Kids His story is still being written but here is where He is today
