Conviction: Who, What, When, Why, How?

What is Conviction? John 16:8-14

Conviction is the Lord opening your heart to receive His Word

Of sin: the Holy Spirit convicts us as sinners to receive God’s salvation

Of Righteousness: Jesus is not here to show His perfect morality, so the Holy Spirit provides that assurance

Of Judgememt: the prince of the world is Satan, and without Jesus we will be judged alongside him.

Who? John 16:5-7 Acts 2:1-4

The Holy Spirit was sent after the ascension of Jesus. The Holy Spirit is the one who convicts us

When? Acts 16:25-32 Romans 10:14-15

The Holy Spirit convicts you when you hear God’s word. How will the lost hear God’s word except through his people?

How? Acts 16:13-14

Through God’s word the Holy Spirit tells you that you are a sinner that will be judged unless you accept the righteous gift of Jesus. Through conviction we can also understand God’s word.

Why? John 6:44-45 Isaiah 55:11

No man can come to Jesus except that he is drawn by God, and His word will not return to Him void.
