Abram recuse lot
Abram recuse lot
Genesis 14:10 And the vale of Siddim was full of slimepits; and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, and fell there; and they that remained fled to the mountain.
11 And they took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their victuals, and went their way.
12 And they took Lot, Abram's brother's son, who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods, and departed.
13 ¶And there came one that had escaped, and told Abram the Hebrew; for he dwelt in the plain of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol, and brother of Aner: and these were confederate with Abram.
14 And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan.
15 And he divided himself against them, he and his servants, by night, and smote them, and pursued them unto Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus.
16 And he brought back all the goods, and also brought again his brother Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people.
Introduction:
Evangelism must begin at home! Rescue operations must begin at home. It is foolishness to expand all of your energy to say full you don't know, and not good for the same, or more effort to save your family members you have known all your life!
One way to improve our family is to get them connected to the Lord! You see my brothers and sisters, discord occurs in a family that is not on one accord. Discord occurs in a family that is not going in the same direction. How can a family system be healthy when mama and daddy are not going in the same directions? One family member goes to church and the other doesn't. One seeks the will of God and the other doesn't. One wants to give a tithe to God but the other will not. One wants to commit their entire life to God but the other doesn't. You have to go in the same direction if you want to take your family places. Then what about those family members who live a few and it's hard for you to you with them? They need Jesus and you know they need Jesus. What do you do? You go after them by any means necessary. Touch your neighbor and tell them go get Lot!
In our text for today it shows us how we are to treat a family member that has lost their way. We don't throw them away nor do we act as if they don't exist. We instead use every available spiritual resource to bring them back from captivity.
Abraham and Lot were family. Abraham was Lot’s uncle. Lot had some tough times in his life. His father died when he was a boy, but God gave him of godly grandfather and uncle to be his role models. Everywhere Abraham went, Lot went with him.
God is looking, for somebody in your family to be an Abraham. When Abraham left his father's compound to search for the promised Land, Lot went with him. When Abraham had to go to Egypt because of the famine in Canaan, Lot was with him. When Abraham pitched tents and built altars to worship God, Lot was with him. Over the years, they were both successful sheep herders and businessmen. It came to the point that their business dealings were not working out. Lot's workers were getting into it with Abraham's workers. The Lord had blessed there businesses to the point that the land could not support both of them. Therefore, Abraham went to his nephew and proposes that they separate for business reasons. Abraham gave his nephew the first choice. Lot looked at what appeared to be the best piece of property and took that for himself. How ever, the land where he settles was near Sodom a place of great wickedness. This leads me to my first point:
1. Lot got into trouble because what he thought looked good was not good for him!
Genesis 13:10 ¶And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.
Lot was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Why move near a place that was known for its wickedness? First, he made the mistake because of his settling behavior. You always have to watch out where you settle, what you settle for, and when you settle with! He settles right near Sodom, which was a weak safety. However, the land looked good to Lot. Maybe he thought that he would not be affected or infected by the wickedness of the city.
The Lot’s in our familyhave gotten themselves into trouble because what looked good to them was not good for them. They also got into trouble because of their settling behavior. Touch your neighbor and say, Go get Lot!
How do we go get Lot?
1. Don’t Hesitate
Genesis 14:14 And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan.
2. Arm your trained servants.
Ephesians 6:10 ¶Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole amour of God that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
3. Don’t be afraid to pursue behind enemy lines
Genesis 14:14…and pursued them unto Dan.
1 Samuel 25:29 Yet a man is risen to pursue thee, and to seek thy soul: but the soul of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of life with the LORD thy God; and the souls of thine enemies, them shall he sling out, as out of the middle of a sling.
4. He had a plan
Proverbs 16:3 ¶Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts(plans) shall be established.
5. he attacked when they least expected
Genesis 14:15 And he divided himself against them, he and his servants, by night, and smote them, and pursued them unto Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus.
6. When you go get Lot others will be rescued as a result
Genesis 14:16 And he brought back all the goods, and also brought again his brother Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people.
Acts 16:25 ¶And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. 26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed.
Luke 14:16 Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many:
17 And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.
18 And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused.
19 And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused.
20 And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.
21 So that servant came, and showed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind.
22 And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room.
23 And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.
24 For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.
Matthew 28:17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.
18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
