I Samuel 16:7: “But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.”
Proposition: Your appearance will help to pave the way for future success in your life.
Transition: Three Suggestions for Making a Great Impression On a Job Interview
Be Appropriate to the Setting
Be Appropriate to the Setting
Cell phone etiquette
in social settings, put your phone away
limit your social media postings in public
when you post to social media in social settings, you place people into the situation of being published online
selfies are a no-no
never use your speaker phone in a public setting
if you are not careful, you’ll carry these habits into your married life, child-rearing, etc.
Improve your posture
stand tall and do not slouch
sit straight and do not hunch
Maintain proper eye contact
Matthew 6:22: “The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.”
maintain good eye contact with the person to whom you are speaking
do not stare at the person you are speaking with
ILL. Marie- date- she is not a prey to be hunted— break eye contact— BLINK!!!
Of course, we can't see our cortisol levels or heart rate, but we can see blink rates and how these increase with fear inducing situations. The psychopath however doesn't do fear and consequently, overall, the psychopath blinks less than you or I do.
Maintain proper decorum in all settings
What is the expectation of someone attending a baseball game?
a library?
an office?
church?

Well-Groomed People are More Successful! Why?
Well-Groomed People are More Successful! Why?
grooming ourselves provides us with confidence
Quote: “Clothing is about who we are and how we want to portray ourselves to the world.”
grooming allows us to make a good first and a good lasting impression on people
grooming suggest that you will always be a good reflection on the organization
grooming will give you an aura of maturity and experience
Marie- pleated jeans- you can be age-appropriate but also operate within proper boundaries of dress and presentation
grooming will make you stand out in the sea of humanity
Quote: SPURGEON: “At the same time, the preacher should endeavor, according to his means, to dress himself respectably; and, as to neatness, he should be without spot, for kings should not have dirty footmen to wait at their table, and they who teach godliness should practice cleanliness. I should like white neckties better if they were always white, but dirty brown is neither here nor there. From a slovenly, smoking, snuff–taking, beer–drinking parson may the church be delivered…a worn coat is no discredit, but the poorest may be neat, and men should be scholars rather than teachers till they are so. You cannot judge a horse by its harness; but a modest, gentle–manly appearance, in which the dress is just such as nobody could make a remark upon, seems to me to be the right sort of thing.“
To echo what Mr. Spurgeon was saying here, this is not about money; rather, it’s about mindset. I want to be a stand out. I want the job. I want the girl. I don’t want to be overlooked in my life because I thought too little of how I was presenting myself.
Tips of Grooming Well
Tips of Grooming Well
iron your clothes
shirt and pants
types of starches- STARCH AND SIZING
match your clothing
shave
if bearded, stay trimmed
One of the highest compliments I was given was made by a men’s dean at a college who did not particularly like facial hair. In going through the rules of the college, he said, “I don’t like beards, but if you have one, keep it trimmed like Bro. Cox.” I thought that was so cool!
brush your teeth
If you have plaque on your teeth, there will be opportunities not afforded to you in your life.
Dental hygiene is not the top priority in everyone’s life, but it will be for some. That one person who feels this is important might be your future spouse— a boss— a manager. Don’t lose your opportunity based on this easy-to-fix issue.
keeping your teeth clean will ensure that your breath smells right; BAD BREATH— BAD NEWS!
bathe
daily
as needed
wear deodorant
always
antiperspirant
wear cologne
Cologne should “Invigorate with overwhelming”
depending on the strength of the fragrance

no more than 4
may be applied behind the ears, on the back of the neck, or under the chin

How to Properly Introduce Yourself
Introduce yourself
look at person to whom you are speaking
provide a smile with a pleasantness on your face
extend a hand with a firm handshake
not too hard
if a lady, wait for her to extend her hand to you
state your name clearly, without muttering
make a comment, such as
“It is nice to meet you!”
“Thank you for inviting me to your office today!”
“I appreciate your time!”
Introducing someone else
always introduce the lesser to the greater
the visitor the pastor
the new employee to the manager
the friend to the grandparent
use a conversation starter, like,
“May I introduce you to...”
“If you have a moment, I’d like you to meet my friend...”
Use formal titles, such as
Mr.
Mrs.
Dr.
Pastor
Include both the name of the person being introduced with some kind of additional information
“Mr. Smithey, this is Alex. He’s the idiot that put dish soap in the fountain at the entrance of the church!”
“Pastor, this is my friend. We met at basketball camp last week.”
