Invitation to true rewards

Romans 11:36 LEB
For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory for eternity! Amen.
This passage in Isaiah is full of verses that we can all appreciate. Let us look at the verses prior to this passage. Isaiah 55:1
Isaiah 55:1 LEB
“Ho! Everyone thirsty, come to the waters! And whoever has no money, come, buy and eat, and come, buy without money, wine and milk without price!
Isaiah 55:3 LEB
Extend your ear, and come to me! Listen so that your soul may live, and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, the enduring proofs of the mercies shown to David.
Isaiah 55:6 LEB
Seek Yahweh while he lets himself be found; call him while he is near.
Now in verse 10 God speaks through the mouth of Isaiah by explaining how His words work.

10 For just as the rain and the snow come down from heaven,

and they do not return there

except they have watered the earth thoroughly

and cause it to bring forth and sprout,

and give seed to the sower

and bread to the eater,

Exalting Jesus in Isaiah God’s Provision: His Word Is Powerfully Effective (Isaiah 55:10–13)

Again, verse 10 starts with the word For, meaning God is continuing his train of thought. The lavish pardon and the invitation to his feast he offers are communicated to us in his word. He compares his word to the “rain and the snow” that fall from heaven and do not return to it without watering the earth, making its plants sprout. In the same way, God sends forth his word by the power of the Holy Spirit. It makes a circular trip like the cycle of precipitation: “For from him and through him and [back] to him are all things”

God assures us that His Word will not return to Him accomplishing nothing; He will either bring us to himself or harden our hearts. How do you feel about the possibility of such an idea as hardening our hearts?

11 so shall be my word that goes out from my mouth.

It shall not return to me without success,

but shall accomplish what I desire

and be successful in the thing for which I sent it.

Notice the scripture in verse 11, he does not say that he promises that we will be successful but that his word will be successful. God speaks his word to us, but our part is to listen. 7 Let the wicked forsake his way,
and the man of sin his thoughts.
And let him return to Yahweh, that he may take pity on him,
and to our God, for he will ⌊forgive manifold⌋.
W. Hall Harris III et al., eds., The Lexham English Bible (Bellingham, WA: Lexham Press, 2012), Is 55:7.
Verse 12 is speaking to those who evangelize; to those that sow the word. Isaiah 55:12
Isaiah 55:12 LEB
For you shall go out in joy, and you shall be led in peace. The mountains and the hills shall break forth before you, rejoicing and all the trees of the field shall clap hands.
The final verse of today’s lesson speaks of the removal of the curse upon Adam. Isaiah 55:13
Isaiah 55:13 LEB
Instead of the thorn bush, the juniper shall go up; instead of the brier, the myrtle shall go up, and it shall serve as a memorial to Yahweh, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.”
Take homes for today:
God’s Word is available; are you listening?
Are you being sent?
a. Are you joyous, and full of peace?
3. What is growing in your life; the brier or the myrtle?
