Proverbs 2
The book of Proverbs is a book of wisdom literature. These are sayings from Solomon that are meant to give us insight to life and the things that we should do. Many people like that there are thirty one chapters because they can read a chapter a day for a whole month and have a little bit of wisdom every day. Chapter two helps us to see the great value of this wisdom and why we should desire it.
The verses that stuck out to me the most here is 4 and 5 where it says that seek it with all that you have you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. These things are things that we should all desire to have and strive for. The fear of God and the knowledge of him are two beautiful things and seeing that we can seek wisdom and find these things. As Christians we can strive towards these things and get a little more of them every day. How awesome is it that we have this ability given to us from God.
Today our culture is not one that seeks after wisdom and truth. They say that wisdom is folly and that their truth is the truth. This is so far off from what the Bible says. Seeking these things is countercultural but that is what we are called to, if you think about it almost everything that Jesus says in the sermon on the mount is countercultural. We are often called to live different from the world around us and this is just one more place where we see this. Wisdom does have value and it is based on the absolute truth. Seek wisdom and truth like silver or hidden treasure and what you find will be far more valuable than anything that the world can offer you.
