Subject: Jesus is the Bread of Life
John 6:33-58
Compliment: If anyone eats this bread, he will live forever.
1. Turn from the Worldly bread.
>What does the world provide?
>The more we try to fill ourselves with Worldly things, the emptier we feel.
*Chinese food?
Luke 12:18–20 (NASB 1995)
18 “Then he said, ‘This is what I will do: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods.
19 ‘And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years to come; take your ease, eat, drink and be merry.” ’
20 “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your soul is required of you; and now who will own what you have prepared?’
If we stray to far from God He will let us go...
Romans 1:28–31 (NASB 1995)
28 And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper,
29 being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips,
30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents,
31 without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful;
>We can’t love the world and God
James 4:4 (NASB 1995)
“You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.”
2. Jesus is the true bread.
> God is teaching us to lean on him
Titus 2:12 (NASB 1995)
12 instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age
God fed the Jews with mana… Jesus feeds the world with his sacrifice.
John 6:33 (NASB 1995)
33 “For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world.”
Satiated (John 6:35), we will no longer hunger. Hunger for what?
3. Living under God’s provision.
