a) The focus of chapter 4 is walking worthy of your calling
b) Paul has encouraged us by telling us all God has done for us and now he is encouraging us to be obedient in our day to day life (In how live and treat others)
The Christian must live different than the non-believer
I) Eph 4:17 “With the Lord’s authority I say this: Live no longer as the Gentiles do, for they are hopelessly confused.”
II) Eph 4:30 “And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption.”
III) Eph 4:24 “Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.”
c) The way we live is important to God because we are His representatives
d) Getting saved is the beginning of our new life. The goal is to be renewed and to become more and more like Christ
(V25-27) Do not let anger control you
A) When you are angry and you loose control over your emotions you say and do things you regret
2. (V28-29) Stop stealing and using abusive language
A) Get rid of the bad habits (Stealing and bad language) and put on good ones
Give instead of stealing
Encourage others, instead of tearing down with your words
3. (V30-32) Don’t grieve the Holy Spirit by the way you live your life
A) When we live in a way that rebells against God, we grieve the H.S
(Lying, stealing, abusive language, being controlled by anger)
3.1 God has identified you as His own
A) You have a guarantee that you will be saved
B) We identify with God by imitating Him (5:1)
Conclusion: The only way we can effectively become like Christ is to spend time in the Word as the Spirit will renew our thoughts and attitude (4:23).
Youth group is more than games, candy, and pizza.
Youth group is about knowing God and learning to become more like Him.
That is why there is a heavy emphasis on Bible study in this group
