John 8:44 (NKJV)
“You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.”

Introduction

Lying has been around since Satan deceived Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden. The lie he told caused us to inherit a sinful nature. It is written in Genesis 2 when the Lord told Adam not to eat from tree of the knowledge of good and evil or he “will surely die.”
Then in Genesis chapter 3, Satan (the serpent) told the woman “you will not die.” He took one word of truth, switched it around and made it into a lie to accomplish his plan to cause all men to sin and miss out on the promises of God.
He is still deceiving people to this very day. The tragic part is we have a choice just like Adam and Eve did. We don’t have to listen and act out the lies the devil is telling us.
It is common nowadays for us to say; “The devil is a lie!” We say this when we think he is meddling in our affairs and trying to cause some kind of problem. It’s sad to see people use this cliche’ but still fall into Satan’s trap because of disobedience and rebelling against God’s word. The most important part of a Christians’ armor is the sword! Ephesians 6:17 “And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;” Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

1 - What Jesus Said

Jesus was in a tense conversation with some Pharisees (the religious and hypocritical leaders of His day). It seems they were insulting Jesus by saying they know who their father is. They were implying Jesus was illegitimate because Joseph wasn’t His biological father.
You know how that happens today. People nowadays start insulting someone that speaks the truth of God’s word especially if it’s challenging them to stop obeying the lust of the flesh.
You might be called a bigot, judgmental, high-and-mighty and all the other names when the speaker of the truth calls out sin.
Jesus went though a lot for us. He endured all of the emotional pain that comes from being ridiculed and rejected. But He held on and was obedient all the way to His death, even the death of cross.

2 - Jesus Exposed The Devil

Jesus brings the devil out into the open for the people then and He’s doing it today through His messengers. The devil is good at sneaking around, concealing his presence within whomever lets him hide in them, and deceiving the people he targets.
Jesus takes away the devil’s cover for those who may have been listening in on the conversation in John chapter 8.
Jesus wanted people to know then and He wants us to know now that Satan isn’t our friend, he walks around as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8). He hates anyone who is on their way to an eternal life with Jesus and not going to burning hell with the devil.

3 - The Devil Is A Murderer And A Liar

There was, and probably still is a saying that goes like this; “If you lie, you’ll steal, and if you steal you’ll kill.”
This saying is true especially of Satan. Jesus said in John 10:10The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
How much has Satan stolen from you? How many relatives, friends and people in our community is he responsible for killing? How much of your spirit has he lied and stolen from you? How much of your spirit has he killed?
Satan influenced Cain to commit the first homicide when he killed Abel. (Genesis 4:8)

Conclusion

What lies have the devil told you? Has he told
Has he told you that God’s word isn’t true? It’s something man made up?
Has he told you that’s not what God meant when He said don’t do this and do that?
Is he telling you it doesn’t take all of what’s done in the church?
Has he convinced you it’s okay to pamper yourselves and rest or sleep late when the word is being taught or people need to hear and see an example of the Holy Spirit moving in today’s world?
Has he convinced you that you are going to heaven anyway?
Has he convinced you to depend on drugs, fornication, adultery, homosexuality and lesbianism to satisfy the lust of the flesh?
What’s the latest lie the devil told you?
That you can’t be healed?
God doesn’t love you?
God won’t forgive you?
Did you know the devil even lied to Jesus? Read Matthew 4 and you will find where Satan promised to give Jesus something that Jesus already owned? Matthew 4:8 “Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.”
The devil will say he will give you something God has already promised just to get you to worship him instead of the true and living God.
I got some good news for you! The devil is a defeated and you can place him under your feet today. It is written in James 4:7 “ Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”
When Jesus came to earth to die for you. When Jesus was resurrected and got up with all power in His hand, and ascended into heaven, He gave you a way of escape...
Accept Him as your Savior today so you can recognize the devil and his lies and start to live again.
Tell God yes today!
