Psalms 145:
Opening: Can you be honest with yourself today?
How do you describe your walk with Christ? Is it a Sunday stroll? Do you find yourself weighted down with the struggles of life? Do you ever ask yourself, why am i so defeated?
Or maybe this: Lord why did I give into temptation? Where is my Joy? Where is my peace? Lord why did I not have the courage to take a stand against evil? Why do I struggle so much Lord?
Let’s review a little bit about David and his life:
Do you know when you place your faith in Christ, God give you a new heart. You become one of His children! A man or woman after His own heart!
David was human and still had ups and downs in his life, Victory over Goliath, David anointed King, King Saul tried to kill him, best friends with King Saul’s son Jonathan, David had the opportunity to kill King Saul Twice-chose not to, Joab Murders Abner David’s friend, David lusted after Bathsheba, Murdered her husband, their child died,
‘Thus says the LORD of hosts: “I took you from the sheepfold, from following the sheep, to be ruler over My people, over Israel. 9 And I have been with you wherever you have gone, and have cut off all your enemies from before you, and have made you a great name, like the name of the great men who are on the earth
18 Then King David went in and sat before the LORD; and he said: “Who am I, O Lord GOD? And what is my house, that You have brought me this far? 19 And yet this was a small thing in Your sight, O Lord GOD; and You have also spoken of Your servant’s house for a great while to come. Is this the manner of man, O Lord GOD? 20 Now what more can David say to You? For You, Lord GOD, know Your servant. 21 For Your word’s sake, and according to Your own heart, You have done all these great things, to make Your servant know them. 22 Therefore You are great, O Lord GOD. For there is none like You, nor is there any God besides You, according to all that we have heard with our ears.
We are going to open God’s word and find the answers to all of these types of questions! Look to Psalms 145.
We will see in our text instruction from King David on how to live a victorious Christian life, no matter the circumstances that come our way. David gives us a detailed outline in Psalms 145:1-6 Read all verses
*David gives us the key to unlock the steps! First two words are “I WILL” David uses this phrase 6 times.
David tells us that it is a matter of our will! This means INTENT, DETERMINATION, AND RESOLVE! We have to act upon it with every fiber of our being!
THERE ARE FIVE THINGS DAVID GIVES US AS A BLUE PRINT
1. I will EXTOL- to lift up high, to exalt David is acknowledging God for who He is, His Position, His Holiness, His Authority over Everything
2. I will Bless- original meaning is to kneel down before God
3. I will Praise- to admire, in awe of, exclaim hallelujah
4. I will Meditate- to speak enthusiastically, to passionately consider, think on and ponder on
5. I will Declare- be counted, make known on record, to report, tell or make a written record
And then David tells us of what to expect from God!
8 The LORD is gracious and full of compassion,
Slow to anger and great in mercy.
9 The LORD is good to all,
And His tender mercies are over all His works.
14 The LORD upholds all who fall,
And raises up all who are bowed down.
15 The eyes of all look expectantly to You,
And You give them their food in due season.
16 You open Your hand
And satisfy the desire of every living thing.
17 The LORD is righteous in all His ways,
Gracious in all His works.
18 The LORD is near to all who call upon Him,
To all who call upon Him in truth.
19 He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him;
He also will hear their cry and save them.
20 The LORD preserves all who love Him,
But all the wicked He will destroy.
21 My mouth shall speak the praise of the LORD,
And all flesh shall bless His holy name
Forever and ever.
