How are you growing in your faith? | James 1-5 | Pastor Jose Brevil

Go to the Book of James. So remember the Book of James it's about growing in Christ. It's about spiritual maturity. That's why we entitled the series in the Book of James that it's time to say, it with me grow up. It's time to grow up. Jim's wants us to grow up in every way in every aspect of life to grow up in Christ jams. The Book of James is referred to as the proverb of the New Testament. If you look at the Book of Proverbs has 31 chapters, Proverbs James is kind of like a compressed version of The Book of Proverbs. That's why in the Book of James, you have found so many nuggets that you can take and so many wisdom or to take home. So, I have one question for you this morning, but which will be multiplied with multiple question. How are you growing in your face? So today will be a self-assessment that we going to take self-assessments and see how we are growing in Christ. If you look in your message note you'll see different areas that I have listed there that we going to take a self-assessment to see how we are growing in Christ. I started out writing them out but when I got two number four, I know you're not going to like that word and number for. So I decided that I'm just going to Blind all of them out and then which was going to go through them. So you ready? How are you growing in Christ? That's a question that I like each one of you to ask yourself. How am I growing in Christ? Am I making progress in my face? Or am I regressing in my face and my progressing in my face or am I regressing in my face? There's no such thing as spending steel, there's no such thing as really stagnant. Christian, if you stagman, that means you are regressing but James wants all of us as Christians to be progressing into our faith, use the message in one sentence. Christian maturity is the goal of every believer. Christian maturity is the goal of, every believer, doesn't just grow old grow up. So, we've been in this in five months. So, have you been just growing older and does 5 months? Or are you growing up in your face? Things that used to bother you before? Are they still bothering you today or have you overcome those areas of your life? Things that used to struggle as a sin for you. Have you overcome those sins things that you used to live in fear. Are you living by faith? See. Fief fear. Is false evidence, appearing appearing. Real, are you able to see fluid the things that you are fearful of or are you going to live by faith as God calls us to do? The first one is Trials? The first one is Trials. How are you handling? Your trials? Are you miserable in your trials or you see trials as an opportunity to grow? Because remember when we read in the Book of James and tells us trials, I have a purpose, there's pain in your purse, is in your pain, whatever you facing if you did not create it. If it's not as a result of you, not walking with God, but it's just life is happening to you. Leave it for the believer, there is purpose in, whatever you facing. There's purpose in the pain because Jim's tells us trials brings about perseverance. It helps us to be stronger, it helps us to become more mature and when we have gone for the trial process Casas, there will be a reward for us because now we will be a different Person. See when everything is going right for us. We don't really grow. But when we Face trials, we are transformed, think about some wrinkled clothes when you take that iron, Can you can you transform that close of the hiring is not hat? That's how you think of trial trial is like your hot iron K, rafting the clothes for you. You see, you looking good with somebody looking good. They were still work that went into, is that I am, that is working on you. So, When Trials come into your way, that's the hot iron. That is going. Your behind is not hot. My brothers when you meet Trials of various kinds that mean that you are delusional. What it means is that I know that I'm going to grow. I know that God is up to something. If I didn't create that file, if I'm not going for that trial as a result of my send, if I'm not going through trials because of bad decisions that I have made. But life is just happening to me. I know that God has a purpose for even when you're messed up. God can still use that to grow you and Jim says, count it all joy. When you meet you see, it's a meeting. Okay. So, what's the plan, me? Trials of various kinds for, you know, that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness this perseverance. And let's that fast must have his foolish fact that you may be perfect mature. Then complete lacking napping. God wants you to be ready in every way. God wants you like to be prepared in every area of life. And God wants you to try in verse 12 in James's, as blessed as the men will remain. Pal steadfast on their trials. For when he has stood the test, you will receive a Crown of Life to see the reward. See you remain steadfast in the trial. So is that clove you hiring it? See if the clothes get away, is it going to be all a nice? You got to stay in. Stood the test. You will receive a crown on which God has promised to do those. Woo. So they are believers. Does God love you? Says God loves you. God will bring trials into your life, to grow you, too mature, you so that you are not lacking anything. We looked at our attitude, and our trials, in our sufferings, in our problem, should be one of patience and prayer and then gyms gave us three examples. You give us an example of the farmer, how we need to learn patience because when the farmer plants, they have to wait, okay? And they have in between, they have to work the land to make sure they pruning the doing whatever they need to do to fertilize. So when you face your trials, you cannot stand still, you got to keep on working, see that he talked about the prophet, the profits. If you remember the Old Testament, people usually don't listen to them. Actually does a prophet that God told him, I say, I want you to go speak to the people that nobody's going to listen to you.

But the prophet just kept on speaking. That's the same thing for your friends will may not be Believers. God says, that you are a prophet to them. You need to keep telling them the word of God. You still need to try to eventually eyes them to share the gospel with them. Your job is not to you cannot save them. God has to save them and they have to make that choice to follow Christ. But you are the messenger, just like the prophets were the messenger and it tells us a joke, we know, Joe went through a lot of sufferings in the Bible lost all his kids in one day. His wife turns his back on him, he went through an illness. And he's friends. Also, I just did not understand what he was going flu and then just make some wrong assumptions. That's has a wherever you fall into the Spectrum. God says, a whatever trial your face. I got you. And verse 9 says, do not Grumble against one another. Because typically, when we Face our trials, where do we start doing?

Any Witness. You like the gumbo you like to complain. You like to blame others if they said you like to blame others. But God says, when you going for your trials? Take it like an adult children. Complain about everything as an adult. You are the one responsible, amen. Children have a way of growing you. Didn't do all the things that you used to be parents.

You know, when Mom, my mom would ask me, you know, tube tube room my room. You just cannot take all the dirty throw it under the bed, guess what? Junior did to me cleaning his room under his bed. All the stuff are in there. Be careful what you do, as a kid and might be coming back to you and it because of that, I had some experience. I knew where to look. Okay, God is telling us when you face problems in life strive to maintain the right perspective knowing that this too shall pass. God is in control, it is, but for a moment tears may come at night, but joy comes in the morning. There's always purpose in the pain for the believer. So, the bottom line is, don't get bitter in your trial, rather, you need to get better for some people there trials, make them bitter, but God's goal for us is that we will use our trials to get better. Instead of getting bitter. Then wisdom. Second one is wisdom. So, how are you doing in wisdom? Doctors, a wisdom is for the asking and all of us make decisions every day. And that's one of the things that cripples a lot of KD don't know what to do. I'm struggling. I don't know what to do and it has a results like you, you get overwhelmed and then you just feel powerless. But God says, wisdom is for the asking. It says, if any of you lacks wisdom especially in your trials, let him do what I've got. That means you pray to God and pray for wisdom. Let him ask. God, will give how Shut up sleep. The God is riding like when you say I'm dealing with something right now but please give me wisdom to make the right decision to know exactly how and I need to approach the stash. This problem that I'm facing. guy says you give generously to all without reproach and it will be That's a blank check. It says it will be given to him. If you pray for wisdom, God will give you wisdom. You can pray confidently about that because it will happen. Look at verse chapter 3, verse 13 to 17 says, who is wise and understanding among you by his Good Conduct. Will let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not boast and be forced to the truth. This is not the wisdom that comes from where above butt is Earthly unscriptural. Good morning. This is when you have jealousy and our heart. This is from the devil. Like it's not seriously. If you see somebody get some stuff and then you, you feel like it in your heart that this was supposed to be mine. You have the Demonic Spirit over you. It's evil. See people stuff when you see people get their stuff, you should Rejoice for them and be happy for them. They not having jealousy in your heart. God is saying this is not the wisdom from above. It's from the earth. Remember why I came kill his brother?

That was sick. So we need to be careful with jealousy for where jealousy and selfish ambition exist. There will be disorder, and what every Val practice. So, we didn't wisdom not to be jealous about people stuff not to envy people stuff, but to be happy for people, even when things are not going well for us. Even when we are going through our own trouble, look at 4:17 but the wisdom from above his first what it is possible in his gentle open. The reason some of us need to be open to reason, right? My wife always reminds me about the good choices, you decide what decision, because remember, whatever decisions you make, there will be an impact for every kick. There is a kickback, whatever. Decisions that you make, it will affect your life in one way or another. So we need to be careful of the decisions that we make. Do I struggle with indecision. That's one thing that is crippling, so many people in the station, we just have things. We want to make. We need to make decisions but we never move on them. But here's the thing not to make a decision, is a decision. If you don't make a decision, you've actually made one. You made a decision not to make a decision. Gate to do. I struggle with indecision. So as Christians, that's why we need to know our Bible so that we can have wisdom. And then so we can confidently, make decisions that we need to make. And if you wrong, that would not be the first time move on. Then make the next decision and correct the previous one that you made, but do not struggle within decisions. You need to make decisions, okay? If you need some wisdom, you pray, you ask God. God says, he will give you wisdom and God can give you wisdom to others. Somebody, you think that is wise, you ask for advice when she pray, you ask for advice, you make the decision, stop sleeping on that. Some of you have major decisions that you need to make, but you still just trying to find reasons to stay back. If it's in the word of God, especially if it's about Sin, if it About doing the right thing. You go with what the words says and you do it decisively, because it is honoring to God. Cuz remember God honors, those who honor him bottom-line. The wisdom that we should seek should not be from the culture, Tik Tok, YouTube. Facebook reels. The most people. Now you need advice social media. If everybody can get on social media now. And everybody is giving their opinions.

And they're going to come back later and say I was wrong. End of the opinion that they giving you is not even working for them. But they won't tell you that but finding out later on that life is so miserable. They even commit suicide. Most of the very popular Tik Tok to his, what happened? Stop listening to the concert. People who don't even know what they saying. They need help themselves. You need wisdom. Go hear the word of God is the same yesterday today. And forever will be the same. It's not going to change stay with the book. Next faith, faith next area. We need to self. Assess is Faith, am I having true faith in? God is my faith real. Am I really growing in this area? Look at verse six, it says, but let him ask in faith. How are you praying? Are you praying to God if you would do that? Pray in faith. In the way you bring Faith is to be in the word. Once you are in the word. You can pray confidently with what? No, downloading. Freud says, the one would doubt is like a wave of the sea that is driven test by the wind. Like, you weren't stable Coz's, eight. If you don't have faith, you are an unstable person for that person. Was not supposed that he will receive anything from the Lord. He is a double-minded, man. What's the word stay with me on stable in all his ways? That's why we didn't wisdom so we can confidently, make decision. We make the decision in faith. When we stay in the word decisions become easier to back. When you stay in the word decisions, become much easier to make. I can tell you stories. I have so many things that today I have, which is a result of Faith. Just take a lift leap of faith risk. You asked anybody who started businesses. You had to take some risk. But the risk end up paying off. If you didn't take the risk of being the same place that you were two days next year. And the year, after anyone, in the business didn't work out, you learn something. You got to take some rest and you have to act in faith. It is so also Faith by itself. If it does not have works, is dead. So we need to act on what we know we need to act on what we know. True faith is a faith. That works. That means it's not useless. True, faith is a faith. That works so self-assessment and my living by feelings or am I living by faith children leaves by filling, but adults believe by faith. Okay, so it's Christians, got call us to be adults. God calls us to be the adult in the room, and what we need to do. Now, we no longer act by our feeling, but we back back back back by our faith in God. And what God's word says, in his word. Am I putting into practice? What I have learned. Am I putting into practice? What I have learned or was it just for the learning? Was it just for a Pastime? God says, once you learn his word, it is for you to act upon So really the bottom line, the bottom line is, that faith is active, faith is active, faith is not stagnant. I need to do something with the faith that I say that I have. Now the reason why I blocked out all the words, it's the end of Isabel. The one thing that we all don't want to talk about, we don't like to talk about. What is that?

Death. That's why I blocked it out cuz I know and then I'm coming here for hope.

100 out of 100 people will die have died and will continue to die. 10 out of them, people will die and have that I will continue to die. One out of one, person will die one day cake at some point in our life will have to face that he does. The Gallup poll that goes only 46% of us, adult say that they have a will and most of them never discussed it. And I was listening to a popular TV show this week and I was looking at that listening to a sound bite. One of the anchors saying that she went to her attorney and then was drafting out her will and then the attorney kept saying that when you die what do you want this to have? What do you want to happen? And it kept saying when you die, what do you want to happen? And then all of a sudden she felt such a weight on her cell. She felt so depressed and then she told me her knee. Why don't you say instead when you go on a long extended vacation and then why do you want to happen? And then the attorney started using her with when you're going. Very extended vacation. What do you want to happen to this house? What do you want to happen to that? What are you up to today?

We're leaving fear of death constantly but as Christians that should not be the case for us because we already know what God tells us one day. We will live this Earth. Just like we were born one day. One day we going to live this Earth and Jim's reminded us. That life is brief and uncertain. Life is brief and uncertain, both for the poor and the rich. That's why we can not brag about our riches, our riches or nothing, cuz once you die, we all die. Poor does. It matter how big your bank account is we're all going in the ground or if you want the Ashes to be burned, or if you want to go in the drawer. We still die. It is still the same, it doesn't matter. That's why for the believer wealth riches, the Sphinx should never be nothing to you. You use it for some to buy some wedding stuff and to take care of your family just enjoy as much as you can but riches should never get ahold of your heart never and never because you will either outlive it or you will live in behind. Somebody puts death is contagious. It is contracted the moment. We are considered Steve. Death taxes and children does never any convenient time for any of them.

An innocence that I've never leave the same that's always constantly in my mind that I could be gone at any moment. And that's exactly how I felt in that moment when it almost happened to me. And as the believer, you know, sometimes something's, you know, subconsciously but you never really do the wheels. You know, you never really put things like in the right place. But it's a fact of life. You see in death There's no distinction between rich or poor, you see James 19 says let the lowly brother both in his exultation for the sun rises with a scorching heat and Withers, the grass is flower Falls and its beauty parish is so also will the Richmond fade away in the midst of his Pursuits to Jen's the saying, don't go chasing after the wind don't go chasing about the things of life and not taking stock about the things that are important in life. The question, am I living each day with eternity in mind? Knowing that? At any moment, I can be taken? From this.

That's as real as it gets. Jim's is very real and Jim Jim's just put it plainly for us. Am I making the best of every moment for God's glory? Am I making the best of every moment for God's glory enough here? It says yet. You do not know what tomorrow will bring in gyms for 14. What is your life for you, or what? And fails to do it for him. That's the problem that people have when they're rich is get a hold of them. They just think that they did it on their own when they did a damn way. But the Bible says every good and perfect gift comes from who Come from God every good and perfect. Gift comes from God. Question for you, and my constantly living with an attitude of gratitude If you know that every good and perfect gift comes from God, you need to be living. We want attitude of gratitude because it was, God would gives you whatever that you have. See, then the next area is fruit fruit. Bearing fruit bearing The Afters for fruit bearing. So as a Christian are you bearing fruit is the fruit of the spirit is love joy, peace faithfulness. Kindness goodness, self control. Are you living at such? Are you living as such Disobedience leads to death but obedience leads to life when you live according to God's way, you will be bearing fruit. You'll be blooming as opposed to Really? You are creating death upon yourself, either creating a miserable life or death. All of them. So as Christians, we have to be humble people. That's why, when we restore people, we restore them in the spirit of gentleness for judgment is without Mercy to the one who has shown, No Mercy Mercy triumphs over judgement. So if you just the kind of person was not humble and you give people no mercy, guess what's going to happen to you? You'll receive, no mercy. So be humble, be merciful, be kind to people especially the people that are closest to you, which we tend to be more mean to them. And God is saying a show them Mercy, give them great gyms for 6, but he gives more grace therefore it says God, opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble. So don't be prideful. The way that you use it are you bringing the two less people or tearing down people? And lastly, Prager. We looked at pray, we know that the Frayer works. And that's what we saw in the Book of James prayer, Works James for two. And three says you desire and do not have so you murder. You covered in Pendleton. So you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not. That's prayer. The reason some things we don't have in life just because we haven't prayed about them. You ask and do not receive because you ask wrongly, is it a selfish prayer? To spend it on your own passion. So when you pray, give God, a reason to answer your prayer and it's not just to spend it on your own selfish desires, that just give us some specific things to pray for wisdom, which we already talked about the missus to pray for. When you are suffering, let's could be equivalent to trials and it says, we need to pray for the sick when people are. So we need to pray for them in. Pray for yourself, but that doesn't mean that you only pray. That's what it says you and none of them we've all which also could be medicine. That means you take your pills and then you pray Kate, there's no conflict with that. Go to the doctor and also go to the ultimate physician. Okay, who is in heaven. And then we need to pray when we are storing that needs some things are going great because it says that when everything is going well, he says phrase K. So we do that. And then we pray for the supernatural, big things in your life that you have no control over. You like to see God move? God says pray about them and then we pray for the straying which we talked about last week, the straying are people, who are wandering backsliders member. The God says all those things we need to pray for. So let's listen to book the prayer. The keepers there said therefore confess your sins to one another and pray for one another that you may be healed the prayer of one single, righteous person has great power as it is working. So God says, pray your works but I'm lying. You need to pray. Fervently, if you really believe what you're praying and you pray confidently because, you know, prayer works and you know, that God will act when we talked about saving the lost last week and James concluded the book. It says my brother If anyone among you wonders from the truth and someone brings him back and let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering. Will save his soul from Death, physical death, and will cover a multitude of sins questions. Am I My Brother's Keeper? Am I My Brother's Keeper? That God ask the king say. And I'm well I don't know, I don't know where my brother is, none of my business, but we are our Brother's Keeper. We need to live intentionally with the goal of winning. Both the save that fellow believer and save the Loess. So James is saying I hate you are your brother's keeper. And as a result, if you see somebody straying from the faith, you are in a good position with our spiritual senses. Are you need to restore them to restore them with the spirit of gentleness? And then Jim says, are you living out Great Commission? The Great Commission says go. Therefore and Make Disciples of all Nations, baptizing them in the name of the father, Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to do all that. I have commanded you, I will be with you till the end of g h. That's why we do church. We do church, so we can express our praise to God by loving God, loving one, another because Jim's called that the Royal law, when we love one another and then it's for us to share the gospel because we love people, we're going to restore them from their sin and we going to share the gospel with those wood. Don't know. Christ is a message in a nutshell. He's the Book of James and the Book of James you find everything you need to live out the Christian Life. Do you agree?

But then says faith is active, you need to put into practice what you have learned. Because Jim says in off, 4:17 Will Ever Knows the right thing to do and fails to do it for him. It is what it is said. So God shows us his word. So now we are responsible for living it out and putting it into practice. Don't just grow up or grow older, but we need to do what we need to grow up. And remember, what does God say? That was the theme for the book. God will honor those who honor him and 1st Samuel 2:30 father, thank you for your grace. Thank you for all that you have taught us through the Book of James and father me. You help us now as re-embark and a New Journey, new commitment where we live it all out. So help you turn up as father to put it everything that we have learned in the Book of James into practice. May you help us to go this weekend review.
