OUR MISSION
We exist to be a refuge, drawing ourselves and others into
a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
HILLSIDE KIDS: We have more children in this church than we have ever had.
Consider volunteering one Sunday a month. See Laura for details as we invest in
our children’s growing faith. The only places where our children hear about Jesus
today is at home or church. Help us make a difference in their faith.
GROUPS RETURN NEXT WEEK: Our Tuesday prayer group and Wednesday Bible
studies are back! Prayer is at 6:30pm on Tuesday and our Bible Study starts back
on Wednesday. We will continue in Romans 4.

THE BOOK OF GALATIANS
Galatians 1:6-24
July 16th 2023
INTRODUCTION-.
Bunyan’s Accusation
“devilishly and perniciously abstaining from coming to [an Anglican] church to hear
divine service, and for being a common upholder of several unlawful meetings and
conventicles to the great disturbance and distraction of the good subjects of this
kingdom, contrary to the laws of our sovereign lord the king.”
-If we look at the commands of Jesus, is there a place where the Gospel should not
be preached?
-In 2019, 4500 churches closed and 3000 churches opened. The church is in decline
and what is being birthed could be anything.
Progressive Christianity
•
Lowered view of the Bible
sayings: The Bible is a human book… We disagree with the Bible here...
•
Feelings matter more than truth
sayings: That verse doesn’t resonate with me… I can’t believe Jesus would send
good people to hell
-This is just a glimpse. There is one Gospel and it for people, from Christ.
-There is no institution, no pastor, no fellow believer, no internet blogger that
should ever be greater than the Gospel in your life.
-If we are more primed to listen to people rather than know the Word, Jesus says
this messenger will lead many astray, if possible even the elect.
-Paul is passionate about all of this, because the glory and Gospel of Christ is at
stake and the behavior of the Galatians is not that they took Christ’s Gospel and
made it better, they inserted the work of man considering it a completion of the
work of Christ.
CALLED-.Galatians 1:11-24
-The beauty of studying the Scripture within the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, is
that it leads to revelation.
-People do not invent a Gospel that lays them low and labels them as hopeless
without a Savior.
-Paul’s life gives testimony for the wayward sinner in that all our rebellion is still no
match for the grace and mercy of God.
•
Biblical truth is open for reinterpretation
sayings: The church’s position on x is dated and needs to be updated…
-As we look at the work of the Gospel in our own lives, we miss the idea that we are
not changing ourselves. We are surrendering in order that God would change us.
•
Human view of love projected onto Christianity/God
sayings: God wouldn’t punish sinners-He is love… It’s not our job to talk about
sin. It’s our job to love them.
-How is God going to shape us if we don’t read His Word and don’t listen to His
Spirit?
ASTONISHED-.Galatians 1:6-10
Acts 15:1 (ESV) But some men came down from Judea and were teaching the
brothers, “Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you
cannot be saved.”
-The false gospel of the Judaizers was this: You must believe in Jesus for salvation,
but you must let Moses finish what Christ started.
-Saints, what do we do to the Gospel if we live with the belief that we are enough?
-You will never be enough for your own salvation, but Christ always will be.
-What Church, capital C needs right now is a commitment to the true Gospel, to
know it, to be able to articulate it, to know what is false and reject it, and to be
willing to seek the Holy Spirit for God’s revelation of His Word for our generation!
Deuteronomy 6:6–7 (ESV) And these words that I command you today shall be on
your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them
when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down,
and when you rise.
Acts 20:29–30 (ESV) I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in
among you, not sparing the flock; 30 and from among your own selves will arise
men speaking twisted things, to draw away the disciples after them.
-To turn away from the Gospel of grace is to turn away from the God of grace.
-To understand the connection between God and His Gospel is to realize that when
Jesus said, “It is finished,” there is nothing left for us to add that He hasn’t already
done.
-“There are not two gospels any more than there are two Gods.”
The glory of God and the Gospel are at stake and it’s time to take the Word in
our hands and set it upon our hearts to prepare ourselves
to live out the life God has called us to in the times we are in.
