Mark 4:35-41; Who Is This Jesus? pt 1

Sermon in a sentence: Jesus is second person of the Trinity.

Jesus Is God

Jesus has demonstrated that has the same power and authority as God the Father. (Psalm 65:1-7; 89:9; 106:9; 107:23-32; 104:1-7)
He has forgiven sins ( Mark 2:10).
He is the Lord of the Sabbath (Mark 2:28)
He has authority over creation (John 1:1-3, Colossians 1:16)
Psalm 89:9 ESV
9 You rule the raging of the sea; when its waves rise, you still them.
Psalm 107:23–29 ESV
23 Some went down to the sea in ships, doing business on the great waters; 24 they saw the deeds of the Lord, his wondrous works in the deep. 25 For he commanded and raised the stormy wind, which lifted up the waves of the sea. 26 They mounted up to heaven; they went down to the depths; their courage melted away in their evil plight; 27 they reeled and staggered like drunken men and were at their wits’ end. 28 Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. 29 He made the storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed.
Psalm 104:1–7 ESV
1 Bless the Lord, O my soul! O Lord my God, you are very great! You are clothed with splendor and majesty, 2 covering yourself with light as with a garment, stretching out the heavens like a tent. 3 He lays the beams of his chambers on the waters; he makes the clouds his chariot; he rides on the wings of the wind; 4 he makes his messengers winds, his ministers a flaming fire. 5 He set the earth on its foundations, so that it should never be moved. 6 You covered it with the deep as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains. 7 At your rebuke they fled; at the sound of your thunder they took to flight.

Jesus is the Christ

The Christ was the promised savior of God’s people.
Mark §8 Power over Sea and Spirits (Mark 4:35–5:20)

Most of these OT references describe God’s deliverance of Israel at the Red Sea in poetic language, picturing God as commanding the sea (e.g., Ps. 106:9) as if it were alive. Jesus does the same (4:39), which hints that Jesus’ presence is an event so significant that it is to be understood as a new “Exodus,” a new salvation and reconstitution of the people of God.

Jesus is bringing about the deliverance and salvation of the Exodus to people (Jew and Gentile)!
He is bringing about this new conquest of the land by binding Satan and looting his plunder, just as the Israelites should have done.
2. As the Messiah, Jesus is the true prophet of the Lord.
