Why should believers be encouraged by this passage?
UW: Reasons
Intro.: [AGS]: Have you ever known someone who had what seemed like a million questions? To every response you give, they have another question. It seems like as Paul wrote, he anticipated a lot of questions. [TS]: The text today records Paul’s response to several anticipated questions. Specifically, Paul defended the security believers have in the love of God. [RS]: Maybe you are a person of great insecurity. Many things in life warrant us to be insecure. However, believers can be secure in the love of God because of the way He has proven His unending and unchanging love towards us. This is matter for great encouragement that should compel us to rejoice in Him!
TS: Let us find together a few reasons believers are encouraged by this text, now:
There is no one who can oppose us who is more passionate and powerful than God. [vv. 31-32]
There is no one who can bring accusation against us that overrides the justification of God. [v. 33]
There is no one worthy to condemn us because Jesus died and rose again for us. [v. 34]
There is no one who is able to separate us from the unchanging, unending love of Christ. [vv. 35-39]
Takeaways:
[1] Have you taken time to thank God and worship Him in light of His love towards you recently?
[2] What hinders you from being secure in His love?
