RAISED TO LIFE

Romans 6:1–14 (NLT)
1 Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful grace? 2 Of course not! Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it? 3 Or have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism, we joined him in his death? 4 For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.
5 Since we have been united with him in his death, we will also be raised to life as he was. 6 We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. 7 For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin. 8 And since we died with Christ, we know we will also live with him. 9 We are sure of this because Christ was raised from the dead, and he will never die again. Death no longer has any power over him. 10 When he died, he died once to break the power of sin. But now that he lives, he lives for the glory of God. 11 So you also should consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus.
12 Do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to sinful desires. 13 Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God. 14 Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace.

VERSES 1-4

“Then” transitions us from chapter five. Grace rules and gives us right standing with God that results in eternal life through the lordship of Jesus Christ.
The point of grace is not for you to get away with more; it’s to free you from everything until there’s nothing left hindering you from being His and His alone.
“We have died, once for all, to sin; can we breathe its air again?”
“Baptized” is not a sprinkling. It’s an immersion. Jesus was immersed in our sin, which resulted in His death. We join Him in that death.
The old you should be gone permanently as a result of the work of Jesus. It empowers you to live a new life.

VERSE 5-11

When you submit yourself to Him in dying to your flesh and your old life, you position yourself for His resurrection.
The point of crucifying our old lives with Christ is to remove the power of sin in our lives. We’re no longer bound to it. We’re no longer slaves to it. When we submit to the death of Christ as the point of contact for the death of our sin, we remove the power of death from our lives.
That’s because it no longer has any power over Jesus. He died once to break that power of sin in order to live for the power of God.
That means we are dead to the power of sin and ALIVE to God. This only comes through Jesus.

VERSES 12-14

Sin controlling your life is a choice. The devil didn’t make you do it. We have to develop the discipline to make good choices.
We submit our bodies to Him with our minds and hearts. With gratitude, serve God as a response to what He’s done for us.
Grace empowers us to live free of sin and be who God called us to be.
When you get a revelation of grace, it changes the way you act. Grace should make you thankful. When you’re thankful, life changes.
The freedom of grace is not the freedom TO sin; it’s the freedom FROM sin.

RESPONSE

Freedom from sin. Not because you receive something different, but because you decide you’re killing it tonight once and for all.
An empowerment of grace to live free of sin and live victoriously in what God has called you to do, who He has called you to be, and what He has called you to have.
