Philip’s question is a common question. Often we ask it when in a painful or difficult situation. “God show me you’re here”.
Doubters ask it when we try to share our faith
We see The Father in Christ
We see The Father in Christ
Christ’s Character
Christ’s Words
Christs’s Works
Jesus’ works were before used as a proof that His words were true
John 10:37-38 “37 If I am not doing the works of my Father, then do not believe me; 38 but if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father.””
Now they are being used to show His divinity.
For the Johannine evangelist the works of Jesus were signs pointing to the reality of who Jesus was (cf. 5:20; 9:3–4; 10:25).Gerald L. Borchert, John 12–21, vol. 25B, The New American Commentary (Nashville: Broadman & Holman Publishers, 2002), 114–115.
We See the Father in Each Other
We See the Father in Each Other
Our Faith
Our Work
“will do what I have been doing”
Does this mean miracles?
Maybe, but not always.
We are not promised that we will do more miraculous works, but more works
The book of Acts shows Jesus working through the Church
The spreading of the Gospel to all corners of the world
Does this apply to the apostle’s only or us also?
Whoever in verse 12 tells us it is not limited to just these 11 men (and Paul) but to anyone who believes
Our Character
“In my name”
This isn’t a promise that Jesus will do whatever we ask, but that if we ask and it is in His will, He will do it.
If our character is inline with His we will be asking for things that He will joyfully give.
Our Character, and thus even our prayers, will show people God. They will look at us and our response to all types of situations and see Christ.
Why Do We Show the Father?
Why Do We Show the Father?
Jesus Is No Longer Here
It is our job, duty, privilege, responsibility to continue Christ’s Works
Spreading the Gospel
To Glorify the Father
Our God who saved us deserves to be glorified and it should be a joy to us to bring Him glory.
