God is trustworthy
God is trustworthy
Good morning! My name is Mitch and I’m glad to see you guys here today.
I have a story that I want to share with you, but first we’re going to talk about our rules.
It’s important to follow our rules because if we don’t, being here in kid’s church won’t be any fun for anyone.
It’s also important to follow the rules because when we do that we glorify God and we make Him happy.
REVIEW THE RULES
Can we all promise to follow these rules while we’re here today?
Okay, great!
Now speaking of promises - our story today is about a promise that God made to his people.
Our story is in the bible, and we can find it in the book of Ezra!
Is anyone here named Ezra?
You? You? Wow I had no idea there were so many Ezra’s in class.
Okay Ezra is in the Old Testament, which is closer to the beginning of the bible than the end.
In the story - the people of God go back to the ruins of their old temple.
What’s a temple?
That’s right - it’s where God’s people went to worship Him
Are we in a temple right now?
Actually we’re not - this church is just a building.
This building isn’t really special. But there’s still temples today.
Anyone know where?
This is a tricky question....
The Bible says that we are temples.
1 Corinthians says that our bodies are temples for the Holy Spirit.
So when we believe in Jesus, the Holy Spirit lives inside us and that makes us all little temples.
Just like how God was in the old temple from the bible times, God lives in us now.
His Holy Spirit is inside everyone who is a believer.
So a long time ago God’s people went to the temple to worship him, but that temple doesn’t exist anymore.
Instead we’re each a temple for the Holy Spirit.
And temples are where people worshipped God and obeyed Him.
So what does that mean should be doing all the time?
If the temple was where people worshipped and obeyed God
And we’re a temple......
That’s right! We should be obeying and worshipping God all the time.
Don’t forget that this week - YOU ARE A TEMPLE.
Okay - back to the story.
Anyone remember what book of the bible we’re in?
EZRA
Right!
God’s people went back to the ruins of their temple to start rebuilding it.
They ran into some trouble though as they were building.
Let’s watch the video to find out what happened...
VIDEO
Alright! So what happened?
When God’s people arrived to start building the temple, what did they start with?
The altar - that’s right!
They did that so that they could start offering sacrifices and praising God immediately.
Because that is the whole point behind the temple.
But some of the older people were sad when the saw the new building.
Anyone remember why?
Because the temple looked different than they remembered
But even though the temple looked different God was still with His people.
Did God’s people get to finish the temple?
YES!
Does that temple still exist today?
NO!
It got torn down a long time ago by a king who was angry with God’s people.
But are there other temples?
YES!
Anyone who believes in Jesus has the Holy Spirit inside them and scripture says that makes them a temple.
So if we’re temples, what should we doing?
Obeying God and worshipping Him.
If you don’t believe in Jesus, but you want to - talk to your class teacher today or come talk to me!
Alright - that’s all we have for today
Let’s pray before we split into our classes.
