Text:
Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore? And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life. But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.
For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
Topic: It’s Time to Pour Out
Topic: It’s Time to Pour Out
We have here seemingly two text that need to be reconciled for understanding.
The Laws of Worship:
The Laws of Worship:
In the Old Testament worship is defined as the bowing of ones self to God. It is humbling ones self before God.
KEY:
We have to humble ourselves to worship God.
We must have the right attitude when we worship God.
You’ll never be able to worship God and experience God if you are full of pride.
You’ll never be able to worship God and experience the blessedness of worship if you are stubborn.
You have to Bow......not just a physical position, you have to bow yourself, your will, your thoughts, your ideas, your opinions, you have to give up, let go and let God.
When you truly worship God, you’ll find yourself like Noah. The Bible says:
But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.
Is there anyone here that wants to find grace in the eyes of the LORD? Because God’s grace will keep you, God’s grace will protect you, God’s grace will bless you, God’s grace will save you.
So what did Noah do exactly to find grace in the eyes of the LORD?
Look at verse 9:
These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.
Noah was a righteous man.
Noah was blameless.
Noah walked in close fellowship with God.
It seems to me that in order to do that, it requires one to surrender their will to God. That is the first requirement of worship.
Let me tell you something, worship is not coming to church and just sitting in a pew. Your attitude before God has to be right. You must be willing to bow your will to God.
Matter of fact, you worship God before you come through those doors.
The key here is that you have to do like Noah. I know that we are inherently sinful and I know that nobody is perfect. But the fact remains that Jesus died to deliver us from sin.
But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
Jesus died to deliver us to free us from sin. He gives us power, to live a God purposed life, where we honor him, and worship Him.
How do I live like that? You do just like Noah did. I’m going to teach you something you may not have known.
The Old Testament originally was written in Hebrew. The Hebrew language is read from the right to the left. The english language is read from the left to the right. So basically when you read actual Hebrew you are reading backwards.
Watch this, let’s apply that to the scriptures:
Noah walked with God
Noah was blameless
Noah was a righteous man
You see that? In order to find favor/grace with God, in order to be blameless, in order to be a righteous, you need to walk with the LORD!
Because when you do all of the above, then you get to verse 22:
Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.
See when you walk with God, you will also surrender to God and you’ll do all that he commands you to do. In order for that to happen, you have to prostrate, bow down your will, to the will of God.
You have to “Pour Out”! You have to pour out self, in order for God to pour in you what He needs to pour in you!
Noah was 600 years old when the floods came. He was an old man. But he did not make an excuse to get out of what God wanted him to do.
Saints of God it is time out for making excuses for why we are not doing for God as we ought to. Time is running out, time is urgent, and when you stand before the judgement seat of Christ, no excuse is going to stand or be justified.
I’m almost to the text, but let me deal with one more thing about Noah.
And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.
Noah, was one of the first in the Bible to build an altar and sacrifice to God. There is something here that jumped out at me this morning that I did not really pay attention to from the previous times I’ve read this verse.
Noah “took of EVERY clean beast, and of EVERY clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.
Before I deal with that let me say this. When you serve God, God will begin to multiply everything that you have! The animals when in the ark two by two, but by the time the flood waters subsided, Noah had enough to offer up every clean beast and every clean fowl of the air.
Jesus said in his word:
But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.
If you serve God, God will take care of you because he is the God of Provision! His name is Jehovah-Jireh, that means God will provide! Anyone who has experience the provision of God in their life, anyone who didn’t have and you didn’t know where it was going to come from but God made a way......tell somebody......”I KNOW WHO HE IS!”
And that’s why some of us don’t have to be told to praise God, that’s why some of us have a reactive praise.....because WE KNOW WHO HE IS! And some of us are in predicaments right now, we have a need, and there might not be any prospects right now......but I can still worship God, I can still praise God, and declare.......God I know who you are......You are Jehovah-Jireh and you will make a way for me!
God never promised that there would be struggles or hard-times, but when you got God in your corner and when you walk with God, he makes the struggle easier! He has the power to lift the heavy load!
So Noah sacrifices, it took EFFORT in order for him to serve God. IT TAKES EFFORT IN ORDER FOR YOU TO WORSHIP GOD! It takes effort and focus.
That is the problem right now, the devil has thrown things in our life to get us distracted. That’s why sometimes when you come to church, he’ll send a distraction your way so that you can’t get into the service. Someone talking the entire service while you’re trying to focus on God, someone texting you, or you on Facebook seeing what’s going on when you ought to have your face in The Book.
Sins, that we struggle with......you’re distracted by the alcohol, distracted by the drugs, you think that person that looks good to you is an angel......but they really a devil sent by the devil to distract you and to get you to do things out of the will of God.
The devil will try to afflict your body, now you got sickness, now you are tired and can’t focus on God. Why?

Text:
And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.
It Takes Effort to worship God.
It took effort on the part of Noah to worship God. Think about what it took for him to offer up every clean beast, every clean fowl, and offer them as a burnt offering on the altar.
It takes a mind to serve God. Your mind has to be right......if your mind isn’t right your body won’t follow.
It takes heart to serve God, you can’t really serve, you can’t really worship God if your heart isn’t in it. When your heart is hard, you can’t worship and serve the LORD as you should.
It takes physical effort to serve and to worship God. Worshipping God is not sitting in your seat doing nothing. You gotta do something. Worshipping God isn’t just worshipping God at church, singing, shouting, and speaking in tongues, we gotta worship The LORD outside of church. We have to live right, we have to live for Him, we have to honor Him with our lives.
It takes effort to worship Him! You’ve got to POUR OUT.......POUR YOURSELF OUT TO WORSHIP GOD! You’ve got to empty yourself! When you empty yourself, God will fill you!
Look at verse 21:
And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.
The LORD smelled the sacrifice and usually when the smoke goes up from the sacrifice it represents the prayers and worship of the people.
When we worship, when we pray, we need to empty ourselves to God. We present our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable which is our most reasonable service.
But watch this:
A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is mine honour? and if I be a master, where is my fear? saith the LORD of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name. And ye say, Wherein have we despised thy name?
Honor......when you honor......you just don’t esteem them you listen to them. You reverence them and esteem them highly, you respect them.
God told his people “I am you father and master, where are the honor and respect I deserve? You have shown contempt for my name. But you ask, how have we ever shown contempt.
Now watch this:
They thought that they were alright, why? Because they were offering up sacrifices to God. But God told them the sacrifices they offered were defiled, they were polluted sacrifices.
They were bringing anything to God to sacrifice and expecting God to be pleased. And you can’t bring anything to God, you can’t live any type of way you want and then come to church and expect God to be pleased! WE GOTTA POUR OUT!!!
The LORD even told them, I wish you’d shut the doors of the Church so that these worthless sacrifices could not be offered!
Look at verse 13:
Ye said also, Behold, what a weariness is it! and ye have snuffed at it, saith the LORD of hosts; and ye brought that which was torn, and the lame, and the sick; thus ye brought an offering: should I accept this of your hand? saith the LORD.
God was angry, because they were offering not out of love, not out of respect, but out of compulsion! And God will not except your sacrifice if you do it out of compulsion. God says, I hear you when you say I’m tired and don’t want to go to church. I hear you when you say I don’t feel like doing anything today.
Jesus said I was tired when I carried the cross for you! I didn’t want to face the horrors and the pain I faced, but I did it anyway......because I love you! And your love for the LORD and your closeness to God ought to motivate you to do all that you can for the LORD!
Encourage someone and tell them it’s time to get closer!
When we worship God, we give God our best, I’m going to say again.......when we worship God we give God our best. When we pray, we give ourselves entirely to God.......somebody say “pour out”.
You gotta cry out!
It is a documented fact throughout scripture that when you cry out to God, things happen:
I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.
In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.
O LORD my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.
This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.
When you pour yourself out to God, when you cry out to God, and you cry in faith, things will begin to happen!
And, behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David. And the multitude rebuked them, because they should hold their peace: but they cried the more, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David.
And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
Even Jesus himself, the Bible declares
Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;
God heard him, yet he still suffered. You say preacher, God didn’t answer his prayer because Jesus still died. Yes, Jesus knew he was going to die, He knew what he was going to go through, He knew that he had to suffer.
But when Jesus prayed, his prayer worked because Luke 22:43 says:
And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.
Listen to the next verse:
And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
Encourage your neighbor and tell them “pray more earnestly!” If you pray more earnestly, He’ll move on your behalf, if you pray more earnestly, He’ll give you the strength that you need to go through it. He may remove the obstacle, He may deliver you, but if it is not his will, He’ll give you the strength, He’ll give you the grace to bear it.
You ought to lift up your hand and pray this prayer “LORD give me more GRACE!”
The Laws of Worship says, you have to give something up to worship.
Close:
Our text this morning deals with the words of Peter. Peter said:
Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore?
Lord we have given up everything.
Worship of God requires sacrifice and you have to give something.
What are you willing to give up to worship The LORD?
Listen to what Jesus says about those who forsake all to follow Him:
And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life. But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.
For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it.
Last scripture:
For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.
This same scripture is translated as Paul having poured his life out as an offering to God. A drink offering. Throughout his ministry he went through and endured so much suffering. He did like Jesus......he lost his life......he gave up his life.
Jesus said whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it.
We don’t know when we are going to die and we don’t know when Jesus is coming back. But while we have time......we need to pour out. It means to surrender yourself to God, it means to give God your all, it means to worship God, it means to give your best to God.
