What about that area of my life that I’m still holding onto?

In Luke 9 Jesus is talking to some dudes who want to follow him, but just don’t really want to fully commit, or fully give up everything
Luke 9:57-62 “As they were going along the road, someone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.”
You see the awesome thing about Jesus here is that he shows that we know he is fully man and feels the pain and struggles we go through yet he is fully God meaning he created them and knows every hair on their head and every thought and doesn’t get fooled by their words, and knows how fully committed or not committed they are.
And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” To another he said, “Follow me.” But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” And Jesus said to him, “Leave the dead to bury their own dead. But as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” Yet another said, “I will follow you, Lord, but let me first say farewell to those at my home.” Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.””
These guys are revealing:
I want to follow you but not right at this moment
8:21 Let me first go and bury my father.
This does not mean that the man’s father was already dead. The phrase, “I must bury my father” was a common figure of speach meaning, “Let me wait until I receive my inheritance.”
Thus the man’s words were an excuse to delay, possibly for years, his responsibility to follow Jesus and spread the news.
?What’s causing you to delay?
8:22 let the dead bury their own dead.
Let the world (the spiritually dead) take care of the mundane things.
9:61 say good bye to those at my house…
It wasn’t a simple goodbye
Numerous farewell parties...
Again, long lasting delays to following Jesus and many temptations to look back
No one who puts his hand to a plow looks back
-means looking over your shoulder while plowing making it impossible to plow straight.
Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
This reveals where his heart truly is.
Jesus made it clear that he must be the Top Priority in a disciple’s life

Choose to follow and don’t look back

Genesis 19:26 “But Lot’s wife, behind him, looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.”
The disobedience of Lot’s wife brought about one of the most mysterious deaths in the Bible as she became a pillar of salt-perhaps becoming permanently encased in salt.
I have known people and teens to choose one last bad decision and it is their last.
-boy who Jadon and Olivia knew that drove to fast off offramp in Pasco
-Man who jumped off bridge and immediately regretted decision.
Sarah turning to a pillar of salt
Keeps looking back, do you keep looking back?
There were some Knights of templar
They would hold swords out of water during baptism: essentially saying, Jesus you can have me but you cant have this
Im all yours but who I am on the battle field does not count.
?What are you holding up?
-wallet(prob later in life)
-cell phone(what I look at on here is mine)
-video games
-movies(still like to see the garbage that he doesn’t want your eyes to see) Job made a covenant with his eyes to not look at impure things
-girlfriend/ boyfriend
?Is any of this hitting home to you?

So What about you...

Jesus I’m all yours but when Im hanging out with my buddies that doesn’t count, thats my free time.
I was in the basketball locker room one day and I got kicked in the gut over this.
God was cleaning up one of the rooms in my house.
?What room does God need to clean in your house?
?What do you need to hand over to him today, that you’ve been holding onto and you don’t want to give him full control
or even access to because your ashamed or too much in love with it?
?Care to share example?

What choices will you make tonight to cut out of your life and not look back?

?Has your life been almost surrendered to Jesus, but not fully?
?Is your plow moving in a straight path?
