Hebrews 3:1 -6
“Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest. He was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house. For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything. “Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house,” bearing witness to what would be spoken by God in the future. But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory.”

And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory.”
Under Construction
Introduction
My brothers and sisters I’ve found to be a very observant person. I always find in intriguing when I ride down the road and see on the side a bunch of dirt, by the dirt you may see a truck, by truck you may see a shovel, maybe some water bottles, cans , or even a cooler and a shovel. The scenery looks very disturbing at times , but if you look long enough you may see a sign that says ⚠️ Caution under construction.
This sign signifies that although this site may not look like much now. However there is work in progress,
My brothers and sisters if you drive by that same site in months you will see that the site that was once a place of lack has now become structured, it’s not manufactured to fulfil its purpose it is now complete and built.
What happened in that process was work.
I would like to suggest you today that we are all that house in a spiritual sense . The house that is currently under construction. We are continuing to build our confidence and hope in God.
When we understand this we begin to realize that when you are under construction, there maybe difficulties, When you are under construction there maybe obstacles, When you are under constructions sometimes you have to be broke down in order to be build up.
The difficult thing about construction is when you are looking at the building from the outside. You cannot see how the finish product will look.
However, if you would talk to the contractor, he has a house plan. A house plan is a set of construction or working drawings (sometimes called blueprints) that define all the construction specifications of a residential house such as the dimensions, materials, layouts, installation methods and techniques.
On this spiritual Journey God is the ultimate Contractor of our lives. Oftentimes when we are growing with God we don’t see his ultimate plan. Look at somebody and say God has a plan even when we can’t see it.
Jeremiah 29:11 Confirms that God has a plan when it states For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
I know sometimes you can not put the pieces to the puzzle together but God has a plan. I know may look like it may not be coming together but God has a plan.
Context
Writer is not certain because of there is no particular mention within the text. However there is a strong argument for Paul. The recipients of the letter had heard about the gospel of Jesus throughout early Christian’s
It is said that Hebrews is second to revelations as one of the most difficult books to understand in the Bible.
The letter is very dependent on the Old Testament because the letter is written to Jewish Christians, Who has come upon Difficulty times and considered bailing out of their Christianity and returning to Judaism. In a general way, Hebrews deals with the tremendous struggle involved in leaving one religious system for another. There is the violent wrenching of old ties, the stresses and tensions of alienation, and the formidable pressures exerted on the renegade to return.
-Anyone can agree that often times when God is trying to move us forward we allow the familiar to either keep us where we are or take us back.
Its okay to look back but don’t
go back to where God has brought you from.
But in this Epistle the problem was not just a question of leaving an old system for a new one of equal value. Rather it was a matter of leaving Judaism for Christ, and as the writer shows, this involved leaving shadows for the substance, ritual for reality, the prior for the ultimate, the temporary for the permanent—in short, the good for the best.
The problem also involved leaving the popular for the unpopular, the majority for the minority, and the oppressors for the oppressed. And this precipitated many serious problems.
Some believed on the Lord Jesus Christ and were genuinely converted.
Some professed to become Christians, were baptized, and took their place in the local assemblies. However, they had never been born again by the Holy Spirit of God.
Others flatly rejected the message of salvation.
Our Epistle deals with the first two classes.
When a Jew left the faith of his forefathers, he was looked on as a turncoat and an apostate and was often punished with one or more of the following:
• Disinheritance by his family.
• Excommunication from the congregation of Israel.
• Loss of employment.
• Dispossession.
• Mental harassment and physical torture.
Of course, there was always the escape route. If he would renounce Christ and return to Judaism, he would be spared from further persecution.
As we read between the lines of this Letter, we can detect some of the strong arguments used to persuade him to return to Judaism:
• The rich heritage of the prophets.
• The prominent ministry of angels in the history of God’s ancient people.
• Association with the illustrious lawgiver Moses.
• National ties with the brilliant military commander Joshua.
• The glory of the Aaronic priesthood.
• The sacred sanctuary where God chose to dwell among His people.
• The covenant of the law given by God through Moses.
• The divinely appointed furniture in the sanctuary, and the magnificent veil.
• The services in the sanctuary, and especially the ritual on the great Day of Atonement
The author of the book of Hebrews encourages them to go on in maturity and hold fast to their commitment to Christ.
TEXT
As we get to the text The persons addressed are “holy,” “Jesus” is added at the end in apposition, so as to fix attention on him, as the bearer of these titles, who was known by that name in the flesh. Fix your thoughts, implies that their thoughts were on something rather than Jesus. On Jesus, then, being such, the readers are called to fix earnestly their mental gaze, and in doing so take further note of his superiority to Moses.
Hebrews 3:2 (Hebrews): Observe (1) that “his house” means God’s house, as is plain from the text cited, i.e. the house of him who appointed him; (2) that “in all his house” has reference to Moses only, not to Christ; for the main point of what follows is that Christ is over God’s house, not in it, as Moses was.
The text makes reference that which is greater the house are the builder. Which Goes to prove that God is the master archetect
Constantly building. Most of the time we glorify the houses and not understand the importance of the builder.
When God is building means to prepare; build; make ready
The house in a sense can be observed as the family as well as the physical house
References to Gods house
Consider Jesus. He is eminently worthy of our consideration as the Apostle and High Priest of our confession.
In confessing Him as Apostle, we mean that He represents God to us.
In confessing Him as High Priest, we mean that He represents us before God.
3:2 There is one aspect in which He was admittedly similar to Moses. He was faithful to God, just as Moses also was faithful in God’s house. The house here does not mean only the tabernacle but also the entire sphere in which Moses represented God’s interests. It is the house of Israel, God’s ancient earthly people.
3:3 But there the similarity ends. In every other respect there is undisputed superiority. First the Lord Jesus is worthy of more glory than Moses because the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself. The Lord Jesus was the Builder of God’s house; Moses was only a part of the house.
3:4 Second, Jesus is greater because He is God. Every house must have a builder.
The One who built all things is God. From John 1:3, Colossians 1:16, and Hebrews 1:2, 10, we learn the Lord Jesus was the active Agent in creation.
The conclusion is unavoidable—Jesus Christ is God.
3:5 The third point is that Christ is greater as a Son. Moses was a faithful … servant in all God’s house (Num. 12:7), pointing men forward to the coming Messiah.
He testified of those things which would be spoken afterward, that is, the good news of salvation in Christ. That is why Jesus said on one occasion, “If you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me” (John 5:46).
3:6 But Christ was faithful over God’s house as a Son, not as a servant, and in His case, sonship means equality with God. God’s house is His own house.
Here the writer explains what is meant by God’s house today.
It is composed of all true believers in the Lord Jesus: whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end.1
At first this might seem to imply that our salvation is dependent on our holding fast. In that case, salvation would be by our endurance rather than by Christ’s finished work on the cross.
The true meaning is that we prove we are God’s house if we hold fast. Endurance is a proof of reality. Those who lose confidence in Christ and in His promises and return to rituals and ceremonies show that they were never born again. It is against such apostasy that the following warning is directed.
And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory.”
Lets Just look at some of components of our spiritual house
st Peter 2:4
4As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him— 5you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ
1st we have our Foundation-Jesus Christ
Walls-
Windows-Because we need to be able to Watch—— the Bible says watch as well as pray.
Electrical—— Power which is the Holy Ghost
The message of Hebrews is as timely today as it was in the first century of the church. We need to be constantly reminded of the eternal privileges and blessings that are ours in Christ. We need encouragement to endure in spite of opposition and difficulties, and all professing believers need to be warned against reverting to ceremonial religion after having tasted and seen that the Lord is good.
Is 28:16
But the Master, God, has something to say to this: “Watch closely. I’m laying a foundation in Zion, a solid granite foundation, squared and true. And this is the meaning of the stone: a trusting life won’t topple.
Lk 6:48–49
“If you work the words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who dug deep and laid the foundation of his house on bedrock. When the river burst its banks and crashed against the house, nothing could shake it; it was built to last. But if you just use my words in Bible studies and don’t…
1 Co 3:10–12
Using the gift God gave me as a good architect, I designed blueprints; Apollos is putting up the walls. Let each carpenter who comes on the job take care to build on the foundation! Remember, there is only one foundation, the one already laid: Jesus Christ. Take particular care in picking out your building…
Eph 2:20–21
He used the apostles and prophets for the foundation. Now he’s using you, fitting you in brick by brick, stone by stone, with Christ Jesus as the cornerstone that holds all the parts together. We see it taking shape day after day—a holy temple built by God,
We can all takeaway some important points from the text:
1. Fix your thoughts on Jesus.
2. Don’t Allow Hardships to make you turn around.
1From weeping to joy
From trials to triumph
From depressed to dancing
From beauty to ashes
From mad to glad
From nappy to happy
From pity to power
From stress to peace
From weary to winning
It was Blind bartamumeaus who met Jesus and changed from blind to blessed.
It was the woman with the issue of Blood that changed her mind from sick to saved.
It was on the road of Damascus that Saul changed to Paul
It was Jesus that changed his mind from persecution to purpose
It was on the cross that he was persecuted
It was on the cross that he cried lord if it is you will take this cup away from me.
But it was the third he got up with all power in his hand...
He was crucified between two thieves
He died,
Stayed in the grave for three days.
He got up with all power in his hands
