Let’s Pray
Recap:
1 John written by John one of Jesus’ Disciples
Old man now
Seen a lot, full of wisdom
Let’s say you want to get healthier so you decide to the gym and eat better. You need some direction and tips right?
Are you going to ask the person who just started a couple weeks ago and is just as unhealthy as you?
or are you going to ask the person who has been doing it for a while? They have the experience and diet and lifestyle.
You are going to ask the person with the experience and the knowledge.
John is this for us. He has been serving Jesus now for so long, he has walked through hard times, and good times, he has seen loss. This is a man who has weight when he speaks.
Last Service we talked about how we should have fellowship with other believers but even more so Jesus and the Father.
Lamp Life
Intro:
To start I want to back track a little
When the Bible was written there were no Chapters or verses. So when the chapters and verses were put in, it was to create an “Address” a way for someone to reference a part of scripture and you would know how to navigate and find it.
For the most part it was split up pretty well, however, this is one I think could have been better.
SO to start tonight let’s backtrack to 1:5
1 John 1:5–6 NIV
This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.
A. THE Message the heard from HIM.
Who is Him? Talking about Jesus.
B. God is Light.. Righteous..
In Exodus it talks about the Glory of the Lord. That when Moses asked to see Him God told him no man could see his face and live.. and even when he went to moses. He essentially had him in a cave and “passed by”. When Moses when back down to the people his face was so radiant that it was scaring people and he had to wear a veil.
“God is light in him there is no darkness at all.”
Perfect glory and light.
1 John 1:6 NIV
If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.
C. If we claim to have this “fellowship” with Jesus but our life does not show it. We are lying to ourselves.
1. When we accept Jesus we surrender our lives to Him. As we walk with him, he will change our hearts.
By definition Change does not stay the same.
This is John giving us a way to check our hearts.
2. It says we lie and do not live out the truth.
We deceive ourselves and do not live out the truth.
James 1:19–25 NIV
My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.
We walk with Jesus
Read His Word.
In love we listen

2. Do not live out the truth!
John 14:6 NIV
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Only ONE way to the Father
To Live IN Truth is to LIVE in JESUS

Jehovah-Nissi - “Lord is my Banner”
God gives us victory against the flesh, the world and the devil. Our battles are His battle of light against darkness and good against evil.
Ephesians 6:10–18 NIV
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
