Introduction

You can only experience Freedom to the extent that you Know (Deeply Know) the Truth.
Story about Sunday before the 4th
John 17:17 Jesus Prays that we would be sanctified by the truth.
The enemy always takes some truth along side your deepest God given desires and distort it.
There is a saying: BE WHO YOU WANT AND LOVE WHO YOU ARE.
I have a girl who works for me and she has a Rainbow sticker that says ALL WE NEED IS LOVE.
The problem is you can not truly love in the absence of truth.
Some one read:
Romans 6:20

20 For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness.

By the way - The world does experience a false sense of Freedom.
2 Timothy 3:1-5

But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!

Jesus says that is not Freedom.
That we were slaves to Sin and that Sin leads to Death.
What is and How can we experience True Freedom?

The Opportunity to Grow in Freedom

John 8:31-32

31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

Does simply believing what Jesus Says make you a disciple?
Why Not?
What identifies a true Disciple of Jesus?
What are the 2 promises of being a disciple?
What does abide mean?

Freedom is a Choice

2 Timothy 3:1-5

But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!

Who does this describe?
Romans 6:20-21
20 For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. 21 What fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.
Anyone done anything you are ashamed of?
What is the end of those things?
Isaiah 53:6 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
For all have sinned and fall short.
Dont look down on them > Pray for them > Love Them
God loves them so much that he what?
He loves you!!!!
You cannot comprehend how much He Loves you!!!
At your very worst!!!
Right now, Just as you are > HE LOVES YOU!!!
Deuteronomy 11:26-27

26 “Behold, I set before you today a blessing and a curse: 27 the blessing, if you obey the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you today;

How often do we have a Choice?
What are some things that can hold us back from experiencing Freedom?

The Truth is a Person

John 14:6

6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

What is the Truth?
Truth is a person

David and Goliath

2 Samuel 11:1 NKJV
1 It happened in the spring of the year, at the time when kings go out to battle, that David sent Joab and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the people of Ammon and besieged Rabbah. But David remained at Jerusalem.
If your not Fighting for Freedom > Go to War
1 Samuel 17:49-50

49 Then David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone; and he slung it and struck the Philistine in his forehead, so that the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth. 50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone, and struck the Philistine and killed him. But there was no sword in the hand of David.

We all have Goliaths in our lives.
Not being able the get out of Bed
Anger
Lust
drugs
deep hurts
Marriage
Wayward Children
Doing whats easy instead of what you should be doing.
Some have things that they can not forgive them selves for.
God did not need David to Kill Goliath
God could strike Goliath down with ease.
Listen
Goliath was for David.
Before Goliath - David was just a Shepard boy.
Goliath was the stage that God used to ultimately bring about his plans and purposes in Davids life.
From a Commentary
When we obey His Word, we grow in spiritual knowledge; and as we grow in spiritual knowledge, we grow in freedom from sin. Life leads to learning, and learning leads to liberty.
